REMOVE THE ABILITY TO POST PHOTOS COMPLETELY

On a thread the other week a poster mentioned a book describing something perpetrators of CSA use as a technique. That disturbed and upset me, and is still playing on my mind, so I'm eternally grateful I went to bed early last night and missed these horrific posts. I can't even begin to imagine what those poor children are going through; it's utterly heartbreaking.
Something needs to be done to stop people posting these atrocities.
I sincerely hope @mnhq are working hard behind the scenes with the police and doing everything in their power to help track the monsters.

Surely the sensible thing would be that any post with photos has to be cleared before being published , it can’t be that difficult .

I agree with this all day long.

I host a long running thread where we share photographs. We can absolutely live without the photographs, however, and I hope MN put some stringent measures in place quickly.

This is the absolutely most awful thing to happen and preventing it happening again going forward trumps everything.

Read the room, or all the threads about what happened last night. Your post comes across as insensitive, to say the least.

Ok, but that would be survivable for a period of time while MN gets its act together, surely? I’m sorry, but I don’t think home and decor or style and beauty should trump trying to prevent the promulgation of horrific CSA images. If MN can’t police and control the images people are allowed to upload, then there has to be a ban until they can, imo.

You do realise, don't you, that Mumsnet is only post-moderated - that is, they only read posts that have been reported to them.

I spend a lot of time on the home/ decor forums as an example. It's hard to give or get advice without photos sometimes. The same could be said of the fashion boards.

It really shouldn't be possible - these awful images were uploaded directly with no moderation. This a is a site with a very large number of open users and there should be more done to stop it.

What are you talking about? The offending posts weren't contained in links, certainly the one I saw was uploaded as an image within the body of a post. Anyone clicking on the thread unawares saw it as they scrolled through.

I saw one at 11pm, as did maybe about ten others on the thread before the post was hidden and a short time later, the entire thread was hidden at the request of posters.

I went to bed not longer after, thinking the matter was probably done and dusted. Very few posters actually saw the 11pm thread (which may have been the first) and I don't see how they, let alone anyone else, would have realised the board was about to be spammed.

Drama? Are you fucking kidding me?

Photos need to be completely stopped while MN get this sorted, it is vile that this was possible in the first place and even worse that there then wasn't even anyone to properly deal with it.
I'm sure it will take months if not years for MN to sort out ensuring this sort of thing does get through - based on their seeming inability to stop the site freezing or being taken over by fake ads - and this is too serious to wait that long.
Posting photos needs to be stopped.

Minimising it and calling it drama is akin to defending it.

I didn’t see the photos, but if they are as described, I expect that the police are involved.

Perhaps it would be best for all photos to be pre approved by a moderator before being posted? Obviously wouldn't stop the poor mod from seeing something as horrific as that, but then it's probably more likely not to even be attempted to post knowing it wouldn't get approved.

They need to be banned at least until there's a solution put in place. It would be a shame to lose pictures across the whole site but the need control people posting disgusting images on the site is more important. I'm not sure what the answer is but I have never come across anything like this on any other online forum. I'm thankful I didn't see the pictures in question.

Thankfully I never saw it but I'm in tears after hearing about it and if MNHQ respond to this like I think they're going to (fob off) then I'll be stopping using MN. This shaken me to my core. Hell no
