The trouble with that is that people would compete for likes. And twerps would have people they liked and always applauded performatively.

I think we got along very nicely without any of this, the "thanks" button included – and if I wanted to say thank you to someone, or agree with a particular post, well, rather than clicking on a button for a cheap, effortless and essentially brainless grunt of a comment I could always write the words "I agree" or "thank you" or "that's really interesting" in a reply.

It's a waste of time and effort, and so is what someone has gloriously christened the "clown show".

Yes the notifications are VERY annoying. I’m not actually interested in reactions, im interested in new posts and opinions. It’ll change how people post - they will post for likes or not bother with what they think people don’t like. It’s human nature.

HQ could add a clause into the Talk guidelines to say that Inappropriate use of the emoticons will be handled similarly to how other types of inappropriate comments are dealt with.

if someone wants to be callous they can currently use the 👏 and 😆 emoticons so what's the difference.

I came on here to say I really like the extra emoticons. I get a few of the "thanks" from time to time, and I give some to posts I like - it's nice to get a visible response from people and it saves space rather than creating a post saying 💯% or whatever.

Still on a phone but using browser instead of an app. I gave up on the mn app years ago, although it might be better than it was.

I like having a wider range of reactions but I think it's a shame that we can't see who has reacted anymore.

Just wondering if this is related.... I noticed earlier today (before I knew about the reactions button) that See Next and See All seemed much closer to each other than yesterday. I thought I was imagining it, or that I was misremembering.... but is it related to these new reactions, as they push everything over slightly?

I can't remember how to get the Santa's hat version of MN emoticons. I thought you put an 'f' (for 'festive') in front of the word , but that isn't working for me. And weren't there halloween versions, which you got by adding 'h'? Or did I dream that?

You can be as positive and sunny as you like, if you're going to introduce a range of emotions, you need to introduce a reaction that allows people to say they don't agree.

I think the heart emoji is totally trivialising.

I don't know how to type them out, I just find them in the emoji MN button.
I like the one, as I think it displays a lot of what I think!

It is fsmile etc. but needs to be in square brackets.
