If you had just posted about the vigil there would have been no problem

Will all due respect, you accused me of spreading misinformation. There are certain people no one needs to take lessons from.

I said I was shocked to find out later that a knifeman had been arrested just round the corner from us at the official vigil. OMG, people are so ignorant that they think I meant at the riot! And I was told to educate myself! The absolute irony. Anyway @mnhq sometimes reports are so wrong they aren't even funny. This is a mess.

I don't mean you are uneducated generally.
I mean you must have a limited understanding of racism if you haven't recognised it on the threads and am suggesting that spending some time reading about the experiences of people from different backgrounds could help you understand why so many people are finding it so offensive.

What misinformation? I wasn't at the riot. I didn't post about it, I posted about the vigil. Have I been reported and deleted because people assumed I was at a bloody riot?

Did you include information about the man with the knife? As pp said a few posts that mentioned that were deleted. But ask MNHQ, I am sure they will reinstate the post if appropriate.

You repeated misinformation that was circulating online. So it wasn't personal about your account.

Yet my utterly inoffensive eyewitness account of being at the official vigil was deleted. So no.

It was about the misinformation re the riots

There are loads of very racist posts still standing so there was something clear cut that led to your deletion. It may just have been the hearsay element and the timing that other posters, and the rioters themselves, said he was an Asian man with a machete and if not for that there would have been no riots. Many posts about the man with the knife were deleted.

I'm always curious when posters say that they can't see racism when it's right there in front of them.

Is it that they're incredibly stupid and think that it can't be racism if it doesn't contain an explicit racist slur like the n-word or the p-word?

Or is it that they know it is racist and they just don't care because they are really racist themselves, and they actually quite like having the ability to express their racist views in ways that are less likely to get deleted?

Just to 'educate' everyone on this thread, I was at an official vigil outside the Atkinson on Lord Street Southport promoted by Sefton Council, with the mayor and others speaking and broadcast on the local news. The riot is something totally different that took place a couple of hours later and about 20/30 mins walk away.

I always thought mumsnet sent an email when posts were deleted. It's pretty sobering to find out that we can't post about being at the official vigil. I haven't got much to say, I couldn't hear a thing, but y'know...

Tell that to MNHQ who have had to work hard deleting the "exaggerated" and "fabricated" racism and far right misinformation that has been peddled all over the site.

There is definitely exaggeration at best and fabrication at worst and I'm bearing the brunt of it myself. Anyway, my only interest on this thread now is to find out why my post about being at the moving and respectful official vigil - where I left flowers - was deleted. Would that go for everyone who stood outside the Atkinson? Are none of us allowed to post?

It may have been deleted because it was hearsay, and something that was being spread by various malicious posters on other threads, or because of an implication that it was a non rioters. Can't read it now to see. But thought you would like to know.

Also, MNHQ doesn't email posters when their posts are deleted, unless it is to tell them they are in danger of being or are suspended or banned.

Wait - @MNHQ I have had no email saying my post was deleted. The post was about how I attended the official vigil outside the Atkinson in Southport and I mentioned that we found out later a knifeman was arrested literally round the corner. There was nothing offensive or racist in the slightest. Can you please tell me why my post, the post of someone at the vigil, was deleted? Is it because of multiple malicious reports or is it because, as heavily hinted by certain posters, people are so ignorant of the situation that they think I was at the riot that happened about 2 hours and a good 20/30 minutes walk away?

And here we go, like clockwork. A knee-jerk 'educate yourself' (ironic from certain posters) just to try to shut down any opposition. It's not going to work. I'm very educated, thank you. Educated enough to see how this makes enemies of your ideology, educated enough to understand that this pig-headed refusal to face up to the resulting massive problems is ceding the fight to those you say you're against. We will have to have this conversation now: if (general) you wish to withdraw from it and sit in a corner trying to convince yourself how you're so superior to all the racists with their dogwhistles only you can hear etc, it will still go on and probably be better.
