Only if that person can't laugh at themself and their beliefs. Religion should not have special status, it should be open to ridicule. If religion is too fragile to withstand a bit of ridicule that is not my problem.

How about if you genuinely feel it is actually delusional to think a god figure is real and can speak to you though? To believe so strongly in something just because a few men happened to write a book a long time ago? To think you know your god is the god and to base important life decisions on that instead of logic?

Criticising or questioning a religion's practices is also fine - circumcision, FGM, misogyny.

As long as we don't attempt to stop people practising their choice of religion/belief system, or treat them in an inferior way (eg don't employ them due to their religion), then any form of questioning is fine - many people do find religion ridiculous and it's perfectly ok to express that.

Why? Being able to laugh at ourselves is a huge part of British culture! It's not intolerant to include religion in that, not including it is verging on anti-British!

I think the way different religions are ridiculed on MN is subtly different. Christians are more likely to be laughed at for having. "Imaginary sky friends" whereas Jews and Muslims will be ridiculed more for cultural practices. The lack of tolerance and understanding for religion on MN is quite breathtaking at times. I meet people in RL who have a lack of understanding, but not the lack of tolerance. Maybe the people I associate with in RL are more open minded and kinder than some MNetters.

I sometimes quite enjoy some of the rude comments as it shows posters up as the unpleasant people they really are.

Any religion or belief system must be open to questioning. It's unrealistic to say any religion or belief system should be immune.

Oh come on! All religions have cultural links, Judaism more so than most admittedly, but it doesn't make Judaism off limits. You can't just give a religion special status, no matter how persecuted our ancestors were.
