Why do you allow people to attack and ridicule Christianity?

Time and time again I see people taking the absolute piss out of Christianity. Calling people delusional and saying it's made up bullshit etc. why do you allow this? I don't see this about any other religion.

It goes far beyond atheism and you claim to be against hate speech.

@poshsnobtwit Can you link to that thread, please?

@Limesodaagain "There is value in poetry, literature . Not everything has to be “verifiable “ in a scientific way.
Many religious people do not take the Bible literally ( the earth was made in 7 days etc) but think the Bible is a poetic expression that conveys a different kind of truth."

I think @BarHumbugs and I were responding specifically to @Soitis83 post about the Bible being verifiable and science needing faith.

poshsnobtwit · 22/07/2024 10:19

I haven't RTFT but there was a thread in the religion/spirituality board recently where a christian was asking for a christian perspective on something and the level of mockery and disrespect from people (claiming to be athiests) was very shocking.

It didn't need bringing up. Nobody was suggesting fiction isn't of value.

You don’t seem to place any value on the Bible so I brought it up? You seem determined to control even the words used . I’m not trying to evangelise here … but you seem determined to prove you are right .
Sometimes it’s good to agree to disagree…

Fiction can be of value .

Except nobody has said anything about value.
The bible is not a different form of truth, it's a work of fiction.

Not at all! Scientific experiments have to be repeatable and have the same results for them to be accepted and published as fact, no faith is required. There is very little of the bible that is verifiable and the bits that are usually have been found to be wrong.

Well of course they do. Faith in what they're saying is correct. The Bible is also verifiable in so many aspects.

@Soitis83 "Well of course they do. Faith in what they're saying is correct. The Bible is also verifiable in so many aspects."

No, you don't have to have faith in science. The point of science it is evidence based. If more evidence emerges then science changes. No faith required.

The Bible contains some verifiable geographical and historical fact. Nothing else verifiable.

Werweisswohin · 22/07/2024 08:05

Soitis83 · 22/07/2024 08:01

Science books are based on factual information, correct at the time of printing. They may be updated or modified with new information, and thus date of publication and author(s) credentials must also be considered. Scientific papers have more up to date and novel information. Science encourages us to question.

A religious text may have some historical accuracies which (might) make it a historical text. It's a big step to then say it's the divine word of a god however. A big step and a dangerous step. Religion encourages us to blindly accept.

Actively studying science books help me become a scientist.
Actively studying the bible helped me reject it as anything more than stories with some historical accuracy (perhaps).

All books are man made.

Indeed.
But the bible, quran etc on are the only man made books which are apparently also the only divine word of a god.

What's to 'be expected'?
People questioning why so much faith is put in a man made book and why your god is so much more real than all the other gods?

No, people coming after Christians is in the Bible.

@Werweisswohin "The bible is cleverly worded to keep people under control.
Questioning isn't persecution though"

I know. I was just providing context for @Soitis83

Yes, I was agreeing with you. 😁

TBF - I did start off trying to be reasonable but then I realised your arguments were just a series of insults so …..
🤡 🥳

Do you always see reasoned arguments as insults then?

I thought @Limesodaagain 's words were quite obvious.

Sorry! Couldn't help myself. I'll go and sit in the corner and think about what I've done. 😂

Well, no they weren't actually.

What context(s) is she actually referring to when stating that 'it depends on the context, surely?'

Nice try though. 🫣

'the words are quite obvious' - maybe to you as the initiator of the words which came from your own thought pattern. They were not quite obvious to me, clearly, hence me seeking clarification because I did not want to presume them to be accusatory.

However, I have answered your accusations and I acknowledge you have dismissed my answers to the accusations with a 'let's move on'. I will presume, from your ghosting, you did not really want an answer but was maybe seeking an argument.
