No it's not! Just post, it's obvious you're replying to the OP OR @ op name, you do not need to quote the OP

its FAR worse since they started the STUPID 'similar threads' or whatever it is underneath threads! I've tried to train myself not to click on them.

I never understand why people quote the OP - it’s especially annoying when it’s a very long OP. We should be able to report when people do this because it ruins the user experience.

On a previous parenting forum, posts, including OPs, were often quoted, especially if it was a somewhat controversial topic, so that if the poster wanted to delete their post, the quoted one was still visible.

But I don't think that's possible on here, is it? Posts that are deleted are automatically removed in later posts that quote it?

Also posters can't remove their own posts: only MNHQ can do that, so there's not the same need to hold people to account for things they've backtracked on.

We ALL read the sodding OP! It's unavoidable.

Then you scroll down to see that some numpty has quoted the whole post we have just read and then further added their two penneth so we can benefit from their MN genius and sage advice.

Maybe we should just report these posts ask to get them removed. Put it in the same category as a TAAT.

Because sometimes you have to scroll through the same 8 paragraphs of lengthy OP description of their situation 15 or 20 times in a row to see each responder's one-line or one-word (YABU) reply. It makes it difficult to keep track of where you are in a page if the OP gets reposted every 2 or 3 posts and nakes it difficult to see the responses in between.

If you want to reply to specific parts then you can do what we all used to do and copy, paste and bold. Makes it more coherent doing that anyway.
