Banner advert in the app

Hi MNHQ,

There's a banner ad appearing in the ap (at the top) that makes the app visually really annoying to navigate. Will it be there permanently? It would be less bad at the bottom! Thanks!

The Banner ads are flashing, constantly moving and jittery. Really off putting and making the app lag.
Very poor, please sort it out.

Is that Mumsnet Voices ad a permanent feature now? It's making me leave the app instantly because it's interfering with reading any thread having that in my eyeline all the time!

I wouldn't expect a useful update on this yet tbh.
Putting the banner in must have been a conscious decision, maybe driven by some sort of metric on insufficient ad clicks ... taking it out again presumably requires meetings.

They really do need to filter out gambling ads though. A reminder why - from someone who is (or was) on MN

In addition to it being distracting (probably the point), it interferes with functionality like filtering OP's posts.

Me too - banner ad at the top plus an ad every 6 posts throughout this thread...more than half my screen is advert's now and it makes reading posts very difficult.

The new top banner ad is annoying, but more annoying are the huge ads mid-thread, especially those with video/moving elements as I can't seem to stop them auto playing and it causes fuzzy interference with my hearing aids every.single.time I scroll past them Angry

For those using android, I've just installed the adblock plus browser & it's working perfectly - there's just a small grey stripe across the top of the screen saying 'advertisement'.

Normally I'd not use an adblocker for a site like mn funded by ads, but in this instance it's that or stop using mn on my phone at all.

Obviously a bit annoying to have to use a different browser just for mn, but no different to having a specific app I guess.

Yes here too, very in the way, and also slows things down so the scrolling is a bit juddery, which makes it all very hard to read

I've got it too. I can't use the app anymore because I can't read with something flashing and moving at the top of my screen.

Not on the app, but I've got the spinning gambling ad permanently at the top of MN (Chrome on an android phone) - both unpleasantly distracting, and ethically really not impressed with this quantity of gambling advertising.

Same here. It's why I've always preferred using the app as I knew I was safe from random flashing ads.

Agree. It is BEYOND annoying. The large ones were bad enough, now we have to tolerate flashy banners too? It's impossible to read a post and now the ads are so big you can't scroll because you can't avoid touching the ad and BAM you're carted off to some website you couldn't give a shit about.
