I guess in some cases MNHQ could even use their discretion to hide a post and give the poster the option of having it deleted or edited to appropriate wording. That approach might be useful if eg the poster was a victim of csa perhaps?

Definitely this.

This would be a more trauma-sensitive way of addressing the issue than traumatised posters being re-traumatised by dozens of other posters policing their language instead of recognising their need to talk about a difficult topic.

I feel things should be left as they are. Not everyone is up to date with the new way of phrasing things, most people just speak plainly with the language they are familiar with and understand. Mumsnet is a place for women all across the world to come together and discuss things, many speak English as a second language. We should be focused on making communication easier amongst diverse groups rather than insisting everyone keeps up with the latest UK centric jargon.

I think people just don't know this. I certainly had no idea that child pornography was not an acceptable phrase until I read it on here. I have heard it used for decades.

I agree i dont like it i was abused and raped from 9 untill i was 14 makes me sick to hear some things and my blood boils.
Plus while im here i hope HQ sees this and thinks about a few things that some posters post.
I mean some things ive had to hide.
Some posts are just disgusting with pics of poo and pics of baby poo and body parts i dont mind a leg or whatever, but ive seen women post pics of their lady jane and bum holes .
Pics of sanitary towels asking is this implantation bleeding.

Absolutely agree that 'child porn' and 'child pornography' are abhorrent phrases and should not be acceptable on a parenting website.

That's interesting. I was unaware and checked some (Irish) news reports.

I didn't particularly want to be searching or reading these reports but certainly it's still in use here, the latest being December 2023.

I'm anti-porn full stop, never regarding it as a benign or neutral act though of course accept porn isn't illegal, and anything featuring children is. To be the term is applicable as an insidious, illegal element of pornography.

Physical and violent abuse in a sexual manner towards children by adult perpetrators does.

Professionals do not (or if they are, should not) be using the term 'child pornography'.

I am an ex child protection SW and we always used the phrase "illegal images of children". Child pornography as a term is outdated and wrong.

Professionally we would never use that phrase in a court report. It's images of child sexual abuse or child sexual abuse material.
