Mumsnet thread pages keep refreshing page to be on homepage (shopping adverts)

Hello

When I’m on Mumsnet talk threads, the pages keep refreshing to be on the Mumsnet homepage (endlessly advertising me things to buy). The same goes for if I close my browser or go to a different window and then reopen - all Mumsnet pages seem to automatically refresh to the homepage / shopping adverts.

Not sure I’ve explained that very clearly…

Is anyone else having the same issue?

It’s stopped happening for me. Right after Christmas, as expected…

Still happening, very frustrating I have to admit. Not normally one to complain as assumed it was getting sorted, but instead it’s getting worse, as are the adverts that are blank/loading and having to scroll endlessly until you eventually find the remainder of the thread.

Yep still same here… if it helps any others I’ve noticed if you press the back button once or twice it sometimes goes back to the thread on the correct page.

It is really frustrating, especially because it’s not just posts that are lost, which is annoying enough, but you can’t even read threads properly because the pages keep morphing to the homepage when you don’t want them to.

Ruins the user experience completely

It’s been over a month now. I just lost a long reply on the only thread I bother to go into n anymore because I had to take a phone call 😡. Never mind, one week til Christmas and then I’m sure it’ll magically fix itself!

A good current, super annoying example is the trending pearl earring one in S&B. You click on the link to see the potential earrings, this opens in a new tab. Returning to the MN tab goes to the home page, not the page I left with the earring thread on.

I just want to be able to click on a page and then have it stay open until I click off it. Come on MNHQ! This doesn’t feel like a big ask! 🤞

Argh it’s getting worse.

every time I refresh a page it takes me back to that blasted advert page now.

which given dark mode keeps randomly changing to light mode, means I’m stuck browsing in light mode which is far too bright when in bed in the dark with a sleeping baby.

It only happens on my iPad. Software version 15.3.1 and using safari.
Doesn’t happen on my newer iPhone.

Just to reassure you, we're still actively investigating this. Thanks so much to those who have sent screen recordings. They are extremely useful to us, especially since we haven't yet managed to replicate the issue (we have tried quite a few times).

I've had this on and off for some time - even more annoying is when it refreshes in the middle of trying to reply to a thread and you lose the text.

It seems to coincide to changes in ad campaigns but I'm not sure. It does happen on every browser including when caches etc are cleared.

It only stops when I restrict the site using Ghostery or similar

Weirdly this issue has just started for me. Constant reversion to the fireplace pic above. Browsing on Google phone. It's annoying!

Fucking hell, started a post to say how annoying it was, went to settings to check what model iPhone I had and when I came back, the page had gone as it had switched to the homepage and I’d lost my post!

I’m using a safari browser on an iPhone 11 and it’s really infuriating how the page keeps disappearing.

I’m so pissed off, in the middle of reading a thread, make a cup of tea, go back to the tab and takes me to the sales page, now I can’t find the thread, I shouldn’t have to make a note of which section a thread I am reading is on. I’m guessing Mumsnet don’t give a shit as it’s been like this for 2 weeks now. I’m amazed this thread isn’t full, is it only happening to a select few? @HebeMumsnet

Yeah this is happening for me today too, any fixes? Does seem a bit sneaky that it’s on an advert page and it’s been a couple of weeks over Black Friday and Christmas shopping weeks…

Anyway it’s making the site unusable and I’ll come back maybe when it’s sorted. I can’t keep losing the thread and where I’m up to so frustrating

It’s extremely annoying.
Is it a ploy to generate revenue by forcing people to view the page?
Mumsnet will soon be like one of those local newspaper pages where you can’t see the article hIdden between multiple adverts
