Why are you making fun of someone's appearance with your logo change

Well I for one welcome this clarification. I left Mumsnet a while ago due to confusing and inconsistent things.

I now know that I can create a thread on Justine Roberts CBE and a feature on her face I find unfortunate. After all she's regularly made power lists for most influential people and has made millions from a message board.

Which thread is that? I’m happy to report it too - MN can be a lot of things but it shouldn’t be a place where bullying and mocking someone because of their physical appearance is allowed. NITS and all that.

I didn’t much care for that thread either gamerchick but apparently it has been decided that it is ok to comment on a pensioner’s teeth. 🤷🏻‍♀️

They don't need to come back. People won't be happy no matter what is said. like I said early on, people want a public whipping.

What kind of batshit nonsense is this? Define "rich"? I earn 21k a year does this mean that I can now mock anyone earning, say 50K a year as, to me anyway, they are "rich".

Hi everyone - we’re sorry that the logo has upset everyone. We honestly didn’t think beforehand how it might go down as it was intended as bit of fun - but we take your point. In a world where people are being arrested for being antimonarchist, we think it’s important as a society that we can freely make fun of the rich and powerful but clearly we misjudged the mood and it was poorly executed. We've now taken it down.

Even if this was remotely sensible, you're not setting the example that it's OK to ridicule the rich and powerful, you're making it OK to ridicule someone for having big ears.

This really doesn't address the issue. You are spectacularly missing the point of the 'upset' - and that is disappointing.

If we are talking about being allowed to mock people for ideas - these posters are not fair game? Where is the cut off for making fun out of someone by socio-economic status. Can we expand this to other characteristics or not?

I agree, as long as it's their behaviour, ideas or actions that are being shown up; never their physical appearance or anything else beyond their control.

I'm sure many of us expected a sorry not sorry response, but that response is shocking.

We've now taken it down; apologies again. We will do better in future to think these things through properly.
