Ozempic and similar threads

This is what is stopping me. If you take if for the recommended two years and pay an average £150 a month, you'll be spending £3,600 just to regain the weight. I know people are hoping it resets the way they eat, but the anecdotal evidence so far isn't very positive - it sounds like once your appetite kicks in again, you can't help but overeat. I'd rather spend that money on a holiday!

MN are pretty hot on shutting down stuff like that because posters report them v. quickly!

I agree Ozempic should have it's own board as the sheer number of threads on this topic could be getting a bit overwhelming for others on the weight loss board. I also think the threads need to be moderated more by Mumsnet as some of the posts are a bit worrying re people with eating disorders using Ozempic, for example.

There are lots of women I admire on those threads using it responsibly and I support their attempts to lose weight (I've tried Ozempic myself to lose weight so don't judge them one bit for that if they are obese and want to change that for the health benefits).

Also - there is too much talk about "codes" for my liking - and I think Mumsnet should pay attention to the promoting of certain companies just because users have codes they can share to get money off their next order.

My only concern is the board might become a magnet for annoying spammers peddling all manner of dubious pills and potions.

I kept looking at Ozempic as I’m feeling desperate but after looking into the long-term effects it only seems to work while you are taking it. The appetite suppressant effect only works while you are taking it and most of the patients in the trials gained most of their weight back after stopping it.

Yes, the risk of an usual type of thyroid cancer has been listed as a side effect. How rare is that? Can they even know?

I agree. There are women on the WLC boards admitting they have a BMI of 26 and yet are injecting themselves with a drug of which the long-term effects are still unknown. It's shocking how many are wilfully ignoring the dosage advice too. I suspect in a year's time the news will be full of people having serious health problems or who've piled the weight back on and more once they've stopped.

I'm on saxenda at the moment with a BMI of 28. I don't know what's going on but for the last couple of years I've struggled to control my appetite. The injections (started two weeks ago) have allowed me to massively cut down without feeling hungry. My willpower isn't working at the moment so hope to use this time to 'retrain' my body and hopefully I'll only be in this (0.6ml) for a couple of months to do that.

That was to answer a previous poster who said she assumed everyone on it was obese and struggling, I wanted to give another perspective.

There's a 'black market' for it where it's very very readily available

The cynic in me (marketing background here) thinks maybe someone from MyJuniper has come onto Mumsnet to stir up some threads and generate more sales - given that most of those on the thread seem to order from there and seem to sing their praises.

It's horrendous. It's extremely worrying how some are choosing to deviate from the correct dosing regime because they don't understand how it works. If anyone doesn't agree with the group think they get accused of bullying like I did earlier.

Yup, I agree that also MNHQ might discuss how to deal with the extreme undereating / 'pro-ana' type threads; perhaps by updating Talk Guidelines and deleting the more egregious ones, a few of which at least (it has been suggested) are the work of troll types coming in from other sites.

I absolutely agree. I think the threads need to be moderated closely too - there’s currently one from someone who admits they’re not overweight, has a history of eating disorders but has managed to get it prescribed (presumably by lying). I think it’s incredibly reckless to have those kind of posts on any board.

It does concern me that there is so much chat, and even sharing special offer codes, about how to get hold of a prescription only medication.
While I'm sure that most people are using this sensibly under the direction and supervision of an experienced Dr, I do wonder if MNHQ would allow so many threads about how to easily get hold of other medications, eg sleeping tablets?

Regulation of it will be kicking in soon so there’ll be complaint threads of how they can’t get hold of it.

I think that is a good reason why they might be best in one place, i.e. on one Board, and then MN can keep an eye on them, as threads on non-NHS-prescribed Ozempic are appearing all over the place as you say.
