sorry..also stop using softner if you havent already, dd's sking is not as bad as others on here but enough for concern and sound like your dd's, ive had e45 and oilatum, both no good for her. i lather in aquious in bath and when dry, and every couple of nights either use help or hydro on the patches and although still dryish, no patches anymore.hth

Gobbledigook · 27/11/2004 22:43

No way would I use Johnson's baby bath if your dd has sensitive skin - again, mine are OK with it but friends whose kids have eczema say they can't use it or it really flares up.

misdee · 27/11/2004 22:43

sounds like it needs more than johnsons grrrrrrrr. i hate most johnsons products as they are too harsh for skin.

ask for balneum if it can be used from your dd's age group.

use non bio washing powder and no fabric ocnditioner, if u feel u need some, then try surcare, very mild.

some people find daily baths help, others find they dont.

try the allergy board, there are loads of post on ezcema there.

btw 4.5yrs ago i thought eczema was just dry skin, now i know how bad it can affect not just a child but the whole family.

colditzmum · 27/11/2004 22:43

try using the threads im on thing at the top of the page - and don't woory, you're not ignored but sometimes messages are really easy to miss. I am pretty new too
For the eating, if her teeth hurt she probably doesnt want to hurt them even more. try making your own ice lollies - they might calm her gums down. On the other hand she might want to bite on something hard. Its all trial and error. Good luck

Gobbledigook · 27/11/2004 22:42

lilsmum - make sure you always use non-biological for kids clothes and you should be OK.

As I said, my friend find bathing less frequently helps - she has noticed a real difference recently as she's started only bathing them once a week and just sort of 'top and tails' them on the other days.

Sending lots of best wishes lilsmum xxx mumsnet is here for you

mrsmiawallace · 27/11/2004 22:41

go into archived messages, in the health section and put in authors name as evesmama, then go right down to bottom and see' how do i get rid of my dd's dry skin(or something to that effect!)
that might help

lilsmum · 27/11/2004 22:40

misdee... i have no clue bout eczema at all. i asked gp about something for the bath he said johnsons moisturising bath. its not weeping just very red and sore looking and abit rough like sand paper iykwim.its flared up so much today i feel like crying as i have no knowledge of what to do at all!! could a vest be rubbing and making it worse? how often should i bath her? how often should i use the creams? is there any special washing powder and fabric conditioner i could use? i have no clue at all xx

Gobbledigook · 27/11/2004 22:39

lilsmum - sounds like you are having a tough time of it. Are you on your own? Is there anyone that can give you a hand - at least so you can get some sleep or just someone to talk to and for support?

Re the eczema - none of mine have had it so I don't know what to suggest. I know my friends ds and dd have it quite bad and she finds it eases off if she cuts right back on bathing them - she only baths them once a week and when she does, she baths them in just water and uses acqueous cream to wash and she smothers them in it afterwards. When dd is asleep could you put socks on her hands to stop her scratching?? During the day I guess you'd just have to try to keep her creamed up to ease the itching and keep her occupied so she is distracted.

Do you know why she might be waking at night? If she feels a bit under the weather, how about just bringing her in with you for comfort till she feels brighter? Do you need to cut back on her nap in the day?

About eating - well, I know how you feel as both ds1 and ds2 are terrible eaters. I'm afraid that is one frustration that you might have for a while. I think all you can do is keep up her milk intake, keep offering her small amounts of food. If she won't eat a meal, how about having a plate of little things just around in the lounge that she can pick at when she fancies something - breadsticks, grapes etc. If you are really worried about her food intake, could you give her some vitamin drops to supplement her?

If you are really unhappy and really struggling, go back to the HV and tell her so - tell her you really need help.

Sorry if I've not been much help - it's been a while since I had a 10 month old.

xx

mrsmiawallace · 27/11/2004 22:38
  • poor sleeping and eating are down to teething imo, so carry on with correct amount of medicine(i find medised is good for teething and helps aid restful sleep?)
  • dry skin - i wouldnt use hydro cream for ages and even at 19 months, dont think its all that good, i use aquious cream as a soap and moisturiser and also occasionally use 'hemp' cream from body shop! is fine for dd and does wonders for dp's psoriasis(?) 8 doc and health visiter - change them, ask to be put with someone else. the best and most sympathetic doc ive had at my surgery is a 60 something male! ALL the female doc are useless!! really! unsymathetic, look at you like your overexaggerating and tell you crap to get you out!, he is also fab with my pnd and will try anything to try and help me..hope you can get someone like this?
misdee · 27/11/2004 22:35

ok i can help with eczema.

has the gp given u anything for bath water? opilatum/balneum or similar? ask for some.

are the patches inflammed or weeping at all? if they are then u may need a stronger cream than hydrocortisone, if not, ask for 1%, and use for short period of time.

Ask for a different emoillant as well. aquous is good but sometimes not good enough iykwim. diprobase/dermol 500/eucerin/aveeno are good off the top of my head.

also ask for an antihistime to help her sleep and stop her scratching.

I don't think a lot of the messages get anywhere near as many replies as they used to because of the huge amount that is posted. Some time ago, it was easy to look at all the messages posted in the previous day, now there are often 400 or more. So people either look at their "pet" topics or at active conversations so things are easily missed.
If there's something you really need more help with, bump it up. Some people don't come on here at weekends, only at work, and others are weedkday evening posters.
Occasionally I've had maybe one reply when I've first posted, then someone spots it the next day and it makes it back into active conversations and I then get another group of posters.

Hope that helps.

BTW I know a lot of people have got to know each other very well and therefore "chat". I just put my bit in where I want and have developed a thick skin. Don't take a shortage of replies personally.

lilsmum · 27/11/2004 22:31

dont even kno where to start....dd 1st started with eczema just a little bit on her chest, its today spread all over chest groin, and back. i have been given 0.5 hydrocortazone cream and aquous cream but isnt really helping yet and she is scratching herself to bits. she hasnt eaten a scrap of solid food for over a week wont have anything at all, she is cutting a top tooth, she is very whingy(sp) and isnt sleeping much at all at night and i just dont know what to do about any of it. i am giving her calpol and nurofen for tooth, using the cream for eczema, and trying so hard to get her to eat and not getting anywhere, oh and tonight she has projectile vomited!! to finish my week off!! hv is hopeless and gp when i asked him about the lack of eating and how long is normal he said how long is a piece of string!!i just havent got a clue of what to do next

well hun..while were all here,... whats up can we try an help?

Aero · 27/11/2004 22:12

Hi lilsmum - how did I miss you - I have a 10 month old too! Will look out for you in future and if I can offer any help or advice I will. Is dd your first? Ds2 is my third, so usually feel fairly confident about things which would have really worried me with ds1 six years ago! with dd in the middle, I have my hands pretty full. Sometimes I feel like you, but have long since stopped taking it personally! There are many factors as to why people don't seem to respond, but I do agree with the others - I love the trivial crap too! Am indebted to mn for my sanity sometimes!

Gobbledigook · 27/11/2004 22:10

What's the problem lilsmum?

lilsmum · 27/11/2004 21:41

I sometimes get the feeling that ive killed threads dead when i am frequently the last person to post or comment. I always wonder if i have offended someone or that my comments are innappropriate.
Also that i dont get many replies to my postings.
I have such a good time though browsing through other threads and when people do get back to me its usually worth the wait because the answers are great.
Nowadays im scared of missing any thing!
Stick with it, i have its not too bad.

coppertop · 27/11/2004 21:17

I think most people have their own pet Topics that they spend more time on. I'm usually on the SN, Education and B&D boards -although I seem to be spending more and more time in the Telly Addicts section just lately. There are lots of topics that I have absolutely no experience with so tend to avoid, eg Step-parents, Teens, Lone Parents etc. It's not a case of ignoring individuals. I just don't have time to go through every thread.

mrsmiawallace · 27/11/2004 21:12

ive felt the same in the past, but in everyones defence, people cant post if they have no knowledge or advice to give. some people send hugs or say they are thinking of you, but that doesnt help you does it?
get chatting on another thread if you want to talk and when you start chatting, bring up your question, if you are already engaged in conversation, you will then get a reply wether help or just a hug so then you wont feel alone, but dont think anyones deliberatly ingnoring you, they just cant offer you advice on that matter.
however..i have popped on some threads and been overlooked, but i dont think its clicky, i think people can get caught up in talking to someone they have known longer, again not an intentional snub

MummyToSteven · 27/11/2004 21:02

i'm not very good on child health queries - only real experience of children is with DS, 8 months, so I rarely post on child health stuff. I do post on trivial crap stuff - but I do that as light relief to posting quite a lot on mental health stuff etc.

agree with other posters about time of day and other issues limiting the number of responses. if you do want to try another site, babycentre is quite good - has regional boards for meet up threads, and lots of other different boards you might be interested in.

Gobbledigook · 27/11/2004 20:58

Also, if the topic has been done before, I think people just don't go onto it because perhaps if they've been on the site a while they've posted it umpteen times before. You can always search for relevant threads.

I started a thread a while ago about ds2 biting and had hardly any replies but put it down to the time of day (middle of a weekday) and the fact that it was probably old hat - because I've got to know people quite well on here and I'm not ignored on other threads.

I've seen your name around and haven't been aware you've been ignored - I thought you were 'one of the gang' so please don't think you are not being listened to.
