Could we have an "interracial" talk topic?

I would dearly love to talk to other mums in mixed relationships, about all the issues of mixed-race kids etc. I know I could start a general mixed race thread (and will do if this request is turned down), but there are so many 'sub-threads' I'd have to end up starting, from the thorny political issue of mixed-race hair to in-law (in)sensitivity, etc etc!

Me neither! TBH I'm not a fan of the term "ethnic minority" either ... But whatever the title, I think it's a separate thing.

I don't think I would like "non-white parenting" as a title!

toky · 29/10/2004 11:04

Oh, you mean "non-white parenting" / "ethnic minority parenting" or some such?! I think that's different altogether from what I had in mind ...

sorry, just meant couples of other cultures etc who may not be mixed race? Maybe they don't need a thread though?
Hope you get it soon.

toky · 29/10/2004 10:55

Sorry to be thick JD, what do you mean? Mixed race / mulicultural / multiethnic = any combination of races -- ??

Think this is a great idea. What about people who aren't mixed race though? Could you make the title so that they're included even if they're not caucasian? Just a thought.

hester · 29/10/2004 10:16

I'm in a mixed race relationship (and from a mixed race family) and would love to join in.

Just checking back in and sooooo delighted to see such a lot of response to my suggestion! Don't really mind about the name: multicultural/interracial/multiethnic sound fine to me (although a lot of the other suggestions made me smile ....)

(Oh, and the questionnaires thing is one of the many things I'd definitely like to chat about in our new Topic area KatieMac!)

"but will she ever wear a sari?"

Shimmy21 · 28/10/2004 22:40

nikcola · 28/10/2004 22:38

What about "but you'll never be able to have children".

mammya · 28/10/2004 22:34

But isn't everyone a bit different?

marthamoo · 28/10/2004 22:32

Aw gawd @ rainbow relationships PMSL. And they said "Feeling Low" was twee!

LipstickMum · 28/10/2004 22:30

LOL

hercules · 28/10/2004 22:06

"Are you doing it with someone a "bit different"?

marsup · 28/10/2004 22:05

'Rainbow relationships'?
No just kidding, it's a bit twee.

hercules · 28/10/2004 22:00

lol

marthamoo · 28/10/2004 22:00

Well, Carrie's aware of this thread - they'll get on it I would have thought. Don't think you need to email thenm or anything - lou or missuswoman would know but they don't seem to be around tonight.

yingers74 · 28/10/2004 22:00

marthamoo - lol u are funny!

Shimmy21 · 28/10/2004 22:00

A new topic I mean (not a multi ethnic rerlationship!)

Shimmy21 · 28/10/2004 21:58

How do we get it to happen?

marthamoo · 28/10/2004 21:51

I think that covers most eventualities (this is nothing to do with me btw - I'm just nosy!)
