i don't like all the ignores on the page it has a very negative vibe

It's over democratisation. It gives the individual too much power at the expense of the Mumsnet community in general.

People should be able to see what's in active convos and which topics are kicking off.

I am ignoring with abandon too because I am absolutely not interested in sleep or conception or potty training or for sale or all sorts and it's lovely not to even see them

I agree with Shaun, but nevertheless I am ignoring with abandon, because I am constitutionally unable to take the long view. Never again will I have to see that 'Scuttlebugger' thread.

On the face of it, it is sad to ignore certain topics, but the site is so big that you need some way of making it manageable.

I don't think my ignored threads are bad threads, but just ones that I have no interest in reading at this stage in my life, nor any that I could possibly contribute to.

Ignore is sad. It means we will never again have the cosy experience of knowing that we are all looking at more-or-less the same talk board. We are each in our own private customised space.

It's like the loss of the communial experience that television used to be -- knowing that the whole nation was sat in front of Morecambe & Wise together, etc

its them appearing at the end of the thread title on active convos i think looks bad..too i am only ignoring classifieds because i like the diuversity i think it's an essential bit of mn tho too

I think it's good - there are often threads I don't want to see (especially when eating) like 'sorry TMI but green slimy poo...' or 'projectile vomiting..'

I think a problem that will arise from the IGNORE option is that, whenever you wade in with a different viewpoint from the OP (or other poster), you're going to get ... 'Well, you can always ignore, you know.'

It's happened on a couple of threads already.

I also think that, if you've made a prat of yourself on a thread, it would be all too easy to click the IGNORE option, and think no more about it.
