Experience register

As many of you know, I lost my two year daughter to sudden death in childhood, in January this year.

I had some wonderful emails from mumsnetters who had not made 'public' their experiences but came forward to help me whilst I was in the darkest of times.

I have been thinking about this and wondered if we could have a mumsnet 'office' held register - where we could register our experiences and should someone wish for specific help, they could be sent a list of email addresses from those willing to help.

It does not necessarily have to be life threatening topics - but could range from anything such as talipes to heart defects to losing a child.

It would not take away from the board, but I know that some of us have had (unfortunate is an inadequate word here) experiences that are out of the norm and perhaps could help others in their hours of need.

Not very well put but I am surrounded by children just in from school and have been wanting to suggest this for a while and have decided to do it now....

What do you all think?

curseofthemummylin · 08/10/2007 10:42

i forgot to add in my first post that i also have had hysterectomy, sciatica and frozen shoulder so maybe could help out with those things too.

Kewcumber · 08/10/2007 10:41

Lovely idea though my expertise (adoption) is easy enough to get info for just by posting in the adoption section. Suppose I do have experience of fertility treatment failing and moving on from that too.

I can help with

premature birth / neonatal death
assessing behavioural issues / working with the school and making the decision to seek help ... the 18 months up leading up to an ADHD diagnosis (DS now 7)
living with recently diagnoses DP with adult ADHD
the ongoing struggle of maintaining a career and being a mother / the guilt of having a nanny .....
oh, and if you look at the property thread, how NOT to buy a house! or to put a positive spin on things, what to expect of you decide to exchange on your new property before before your chain behind you is ready.

Great idea, I wish I'd had access to this type of help when I lost my first DS. I've wanted to volunteer at UCH but cannot make the commitment they need. (I am also a trained Samaritan)

CountessDracula · 08/10/2007 10:21

Glandular Fever with a 1 year old is my other speciality

saltire · 08/10/2007 10:20

Trying to think what I could contribute.

Well I ahd a parent who was very ill on and off for most of my childhood and teenage years.
Sudden unexpected death of said parent when i was 16
I had PND, and still to a degree have depression
I have Fibromyalgia/chronic pain syndrome

Does that help at all

MrsJohnCusack · 08/10/2007 10:18

this is a lovely idea and I would be happy to be on a register for anything that might be useful to someone else. Emigrating to NZ and having big babies maybe

CountessDracula · 08/10/2007 10:17

CountessDracula · 08/10/2007 10:17

I can do post-partum haemorrhage

(i can't spell it though, had to look it up )

great idea ggg

ggglimpopo · 08/10/2007 10:14

Thank you Justine. I was also thinking that it might work on two levels - a 'private list', held by you where the more traumatic or intimate experiences (such as loss of a child, syndromes) could be listed and accessed on contact with mumsnet, and then a second, public list with the more everyday experiences, everything from ability to translate Japanese to cracked nipples.

OP posts:
JustineMumsnet · 08/10/2007 10:05

We think this is a fab idea too - we'll have a think about the best way to implement it - possibly using MyMumsnet but keeping a private list - would be nice to automate it.
We'll get back to you - possibly not for 3 week's though as Tech's in the US.
Thanks for the suggestion ggglimpopo.
