Don't think a lot of people on MN are very welcoming to posters who've joined recently.................

do posters who've been here a few years think they are more "important" than newer posters?

no one who posts here owns the site, but reading some posts I feel certain oldies think they have a share in MN or something

you haven't ladies!!!

each post is as valid as the next and new poeple joining should be made welcome, unless they post something which goes against the MN rules

I've disagreed....and agreed with old and new posters !

I was touched when over 100 posted on my little prem son's birth announcement thread,,,,all very sweet and supportive messages

Agree with everyone who says if you come on to mn for the sole purpose of semi-literately ranting at everyone without bothering to actually look at the thread you are ranting about, you are going to have a robust reception.

I used to throw ticker tape parades for new posters, but gave up when I was told that the council had banned them...

... and when I was handed the MN dustpan and brush, and told to get on with it.

toomuchtoo: there are loads of threads saying "I'm new" followed by tons of welcoming messages. I guess MN is like any group of people and there are some folk you identify with, some you don't. Some who are really helpful, some just downright rude. And i don't think that depends on whether they are new or not. It's really no different to e.g. the playground/office - except that in RL you know who you're starting a conversation with.

Newbies, try to remember to go in slowly until you get the hang of the place. If you do want to be brazen and offensive, then don't be surprised if you also get a good butt-kicking! -

Boco is funny and I thought she'd been here ages too. If someone comes to a party and slags the food and the guests off, she isn't going to be popular. Simple.

I think I found the thread where a poster (not a Woolies one!) was "discussing" Madelaine McCann still being missing, I guess the thread I read was in response to the op in this other thread..............

agree new posters not generally made to feel unwelcome, but this thread was very imflammatory, so my op was a bit misguided

You may have the ability to say whatever you want to say, but it doesn't mean you will necessarily be popular or deserving of respect. (That's a generic you, not anyone in particular. 'One' is just too poncey.)

I don't think we'd use that approach when trying new M&T group for the first time would we? (Not that I've ever done that but I'm guessing)

I think that if as a newbie your first post says 'right you selfish bastards you should all be ashamed!!' (which about 3 newbies have leapt in with recently) - they they can't really expect a warm welcome.

I only found this site a few months ago and as a newbie found hundreds of very welcoming and very funny and interesting people, and i'd say about 2 vaguely unfriendly ones.
