MN is a load of shit and all the posters are full of it

I came here as was fed up of the fluffiness on other parenting websites, the tickers, the over moderation of swear words and forceful opinions, the constant calling for hugs, the 'huns' etc

But you know what after spending 6 months here I'm heading back to those parenting websites where normal people frequent and will put up with the overt 'nicey nicey ness.'

Whats so great about MN? You all go on about it all the time, its freedom of speech, its being able to get seriously involved in debates, etc........well yes there is that but pretty soon the 'parping' becomes duller than the 'big (((((hun)))))'. And what the lack of moderation means we can write 'fuck off'...???

I would love to read a thread without cod being mentioned - fgs, you're like a load of playground kids desperate for attention from queen bee by mentioning her name!

Then there's the food threads where a normal conversation never occurs without 'fruitshoots are crap' or 'lentil weavers' thrown in...........so boring now as is the debate on what is crap and what is not, who gives crap and who does not and usually ends in people saying parp and fuck off. FGS, how anyone can read these threads again and again is beyond me.

MN is a place where you can't say you actually think the SMA emblem looks like a mother cuddling her child without attacks, you can't ever be on the middle ground of something.

On MN the newbies, a term I hate are generally are viewed as a lower species and treated with disdain, people whos opinions are less important or valid.

On MN those who shout loudest, post longest and are the rudest are the most regarded.

On MN, there are a group of mother judging all the other mothers as inferior to them and setting ridiculous standards.

On MN a topic such as weaning invokes 500 posts of pure drivel and arguments

Then there's the new AIBU threads which are just so fucking annoying and pointless.

So I will go back to my fluffy parenting forums where people are pleasant, normal and all are there for genuine reasons.

I will give up my freedom of saying fuck off.

MN is shit

i'd love to see a MN royal family tree ifyou have time before departing connie

(never sure who to suck up to)

MrsBadger · 30/04/2007 17:32

what is this with MN Royalty?

I have never heard of them or come across them

who are they?

joash · 30/04/2007 17:32

god this all sounds a bit school yardy "She's more popular then me ... whine...whine..whine"

ConnieDescending · 30/04/2007 17:31

Well, far too many people have been rude, but one name in particular comes to mind.

I dont mind the rudeness so much, its the jumping on the bandwagon mentality, the same old jokes ALL the time, the sucking up to MN Royalty..............................

Again, I disagree.

Thing become cyclical.

There are time when I post and think it is nasty, but the majority of posts and kind and supportive.

If you want to see nasty you should see the Times Ed Boards. Or possibly not!

And the wit on MN is astonishing. I still LOL at MI's 'Do you like nice plates' comment (you sort of had to be there to get it) and Alohas in one very heated, but facinating debate floored me!

There are times when the debate stops and an argument starts, but there are also cases where tat is not the case. This is one of the few places where I have seen major issure debated with passion and conviction.

If you don't like a thread, leave it and go somewhere else. There is pleanty of 'else' to look at.

Inrockuptible · 30/04/2007 17:30

Would you abandon your friends if they disagreed with you?
Would you insult them for the same reason?
Would you have a tantrum if you met a new group of friends and didn't get the full on attention you so obviously deserve?
From what I have seen of mumsnet this is a lovely community where people are supported through the hardest times, and share the best times, can have a laugh, and can moan and complain whenever they like.

It's like a normal friendship, but with bonuses as you can heartily debate all sorts of things you just don't have the time to talk to friends about on nights out etc.

And for me friendship can mean ups and down and bitching, and a lot of disagreement which isn't neccesarily an attack, and to be honest it's an internet forum so if you don't like what is said then you don't have to read it so please do just f off.

I've been around here for years now and yes - there are occasionally arseholes who occasionally post without thinking - ME INCLUDED!! But if it wasn't for the support I had on here when we were going thrgh the court case with GS, I would have either lost it totally or done the 'proverbial runner' that I had planned and become a kidnapper!!!!

rowan1971 · 30/04/2007 17:29

I didn't know you were new, Boco.

Thought you were a veteran, for some reason.

(Not, and I'd like to make this COMPLETELY clear, that I would have disdained you had I known.)

Tutter · 30/04/2007 17:29

Tutter · 30/04/2007 17:28

drively makes me think of comely - i think i like it too

Blu · 30/04/2007 17:27

Yes, those things happen on some threads, by some posters, some of the time.

OTH There are thousands of posters offering extremely useful experience and information, kindness, honesty...and even plenty of threads dealing with sensitive and controversial issues that keep to enlightening debate and show how differnt opinions create diversity and open-mindedness.

And the best wit on MN is very very funny. I love MN for that.

If you see a thread that is descending into nonsense, you can always leave it alone and click elsewhere.

It's not nice whern hostiity, snarkyness and generalised hatred seem to sweep through MN but a critical mass of posters can pull it round again.
But....no-one's under contact to stay...good luck amongst the avatars!

ConnieDescending · 30/04/2007 17:27

I agree MB, but the other stuff I mentioned has taken over the board.
