MN is a load of shit and all the posters are full of it

I came here as was fed up of the fluffiness on other parenting websites, the tickers, the over moderation of swear words and forceful opinions, the constant calling for hugs, the 'huns' etc

But you know what after spending 6 months here I'm heading back to those parenting websites where normal people frequent and will put up with the overt 'nicey nicey ness.'

Whats so great about MN? You all go on about it all the time, its freedom of speech, its being able to get seriously involved in debates, etc........well yes there is that but pretty soon the 'parping' becomes duller than the 'big (((((hun)))))'. And what the lack of moderation means we can write 'fuck off'...???

I would love to read a thread without cod being mentioned - fgs, you're like a load of playground kids desperate for attention from queen bee by mentioning her name!

Then there's the food threads where a normal conversation never occurs without 'fruitshoots are crap' or 'lentil weavers' thrown in...........so boring now as is the debate on what is crap and what is not, who gives crap and who does not and usually ends in people saying parp and fuck off. FGS, how anyone can read these threads again and again is beyond me.

MN is a place where you can't say you actually think the SMA emblem looks like a mother cuddling her child without attacks, you can't ever be on the middle ground of something.

On MN the newbies, a term I hate are generally are viewed as a lower species and treated with disdain, people whos opinions are less important or valid.

On MN those who shout loudest, post longest and are the rudest are the most regarded.

On MN, there are a group of mother judging all the other mothers as inferior to them and setting ridiculous standards.

On MN a topic such as weaning invokes 500 posts of pure drivel and arguments

Then there's the new AIBU threads which are just so fucking annoying and pointless.

So I will go back to my fluffy parenting forums where people are pleasant, normal and all are there for genuine reasons.

I will give up my freedom of saying fuck off.

MN is shit

Do you want people to pursuade you what a nice place Mumsnet is?

It's not always nice. A couple of times I've cried at something someone has posted, and once I got very angry.

I came to Mn out of desperation, seeking some advice on how to help my desperately unhappy son. Suddenly I was in contact with people who understood how I felt, and were able to offer me sound advice on how to help my DS. I then came across a friit shoot thread, which made me laugh out loud for the firt time in, well, a long time.

I have discovered I am not the only person to have suffered pnd, to be annoyed by my husband, and want to scream at my children by 7pm. I really didn't know there were so many witty women in the world. For some reason most of the ones I meet in RL seem quite dull.

When I first read your post, I just wanted to say 'fuck off then', but I haven't sworn at anyone on MN yet, and I hope I never do.

You are attention seeking or you wouldnt still be here.

A few things seem to have got right up your...fingernails. Most posters never refer to either cod, fruit shoots or sausage rools. Some os have no idea how to link to the bat, or use MSN. The huge majority of posters go about trhier daily business on MN without ever doing any of the things you are reacting to.

I think there are times when things become unpleasant - I don't like people carrying disagreements from one thread to another, being snidey about a post because of who made it rather than because of what it says.

But I am interested in how many times I vehemently disagree with what someone says on one thread, only to completely sympathise with them elsewhere. And how many times I have felt antipathy to a poster, and the later come to appreciate them - seeing them help others or in a new light on a different thread.

I left very upset once, and came back saying 'if it's worth getting upset over, it's worth staying'.

Caligula · 30/04/2007 17:47

Well now you've got that off your chest.

I like MN because it's more intelligent than anywhere else I've found and better designed. I'm shocked by the level of idiocy on the BBC boards, for instance, or the unuserfriendliness of other boards where you can't have a proper debate. I just haven't come across another site where people are as well-informed as on this one.

That outweighs any disadvantage afaic.

ConnieDescending · 30/04/2007 17:46

FGS littlelapin - how many points did you score with MN royalty posting that????

I am not 'flouncing'....or ooh can I use this 'blardy' attention seeking.

Now I do look at active conversations when I come on...does this give a skewed picture of MN?

I reckon what Connie says and what MB says are both true.

That's a bit what I mean by the rah rah mumsnet thing. Why do you have to think it's great or shit? IT's both.

I've certainly felt what Connie feels now at times. 'What a load of crap why am I bopthering?' and at other times found it hilarious had great support and some stonking debate.

Isn't it like that for everyone? haven't you all felt a bit ike Connie at times?

Why do we have to defend MN? just agree yeah it's shit sometimes isn't it Connie?

Mercy · 30/04/2007 17:45

niceglasses · 30/04/2007 17:45

Some of what Connie say is true. There are some pointless (imho) debates which are regurgitated on a regular basis (I'd suggest you simply avoid those threads) and some fairly vociferous posters (avoid their posts) and occasionally there are some pretty nasty threads.

You can't possibly expect a random group of women from all walks of life and different backgrounds to get on and agree about everything. Life isn't that simple. And because there is no face to face contact in internet chatrooms some posters can be rude or come across as harsh.

However, there is a huge amount of goodwill on MN and I am constantly amazed at the kindness shown to posters who are facing difficult times.

You obviously aren't happy so perhaps a break (permanent or otherwise) would be a good idea.

I like mn. I like to come here and chat. I live in the middle of nowhere and have no rl friends (yes, that's right, none) the friends I have from years back, I keep in touch with via email so they may as well be virtual friends as well.

I like to have a good laugh, and you will often see me on the chat threads.

erm... that's it really. If I want a heated debate, I know exactly where to look for it, but most of the time, I just want to chat so I don't go on the heated debate threads

Boco · 30/04/2007 17:44

Food threads are not compulsory to read or be involved in. Just give them a miss. I think i will having been baffled by one recently - they're highly emmotive \ hysterical.

There's so much else to chat about though.

Mercy · 30/04/2007 17:44

kissy kissy

Twiglett · 30/04/2007 17:44

I quite agree

May I come too?

Inrockuptible · 30/04/2007 17:43

If you really hate it and really give a shit then why are you still here reading through what people are saying and commenting back?

I'm quoting myself as sad as that is.
Why get upset and het up about something like this?

If you disagree or feel left out of a topic don't bother reading it, if you don't get your fluffy avatars and such here and you really miss them then go somehwere you can.

Saturn74 · 30/04/2007 17:43

I'm sure the OP is copy and pasted from a thread a few weeks ago, but it didn't get the desired attention then.
