MN is a load of shit and all the posters are full of it

I came here as was fed up of the fluffiness on other parenting websites, the tickers, the over moderation of swear words and forceful opinions, the constant calling for hugs, the 'huns' etc

But you know what after spending 6 months here I'm heading back to those parenting websites where normal people frequent and will put up with the overt 'nicey nicey ness.'

Whats so great about MN? You all go on about it all the time, its freedom of speech, its being able to get seriously involved in debates, etc........well yes there is that but pretty soon the 'parping' becomes duller than the 'big (((((hun)))))'. And what the lack of moderation means we can write 'fuck off'...???

I would love to read a thread without cod being mentioned - fgs, you're like a load of playground kids desperate for attention from queen bee by mentioning her name!

Then there's the food threads where a normal conversation never occurs without 'fruitshoots are crap' or 'lentil weavers' thrown in...........so boring now as is the debate on what is crap and what is not, who gives crap and who does not and usually ends in people saying parp and fuck off. FGS, how anyone can read these threads again and again is beyond me.

MN is a place where you can't say you actually think the SMA emblem looks like a mother cuddling her child without attacks, you can't ever be on the middle ground of something.

On MN the newbies, a term I hate are generally are viewed as a lower species and treated with disdain, people whos opinions are less important or valid.

On MN those who shout loudest, post longest and are the rudest are the most regarded.

On MN, there are a group of mother judging all the other mothers as inferior to them and setting ridiculous standards.

On MN a topic such as weaning invokes 500 posts of pure drivel and arguments

Then there's the new AIBU threads which are just so fucking annoying and pointless.

So I will go back to my fluffy parenting forums where people are pleasant, normal and all are there for genuine reasons.

I will give up my freedom of saying fuck off.

Lentil weaver... thems wot is natural and organic and wears hemp and knits their own muesli.

Cod (in various forms and guises) - A long term member. Can spell, but gets the letters in the wrong order. Very very blunt (sometimes too blunt at times). Can be much liked or much hated.

I haven't been on here long but one of the things I really like is the running jokes. I saw a woman the other day with a kid in a pushchair and the basket underneath had about twelve FrootShoot bottles in it. Now pre-MN I would have just thought "tut tut" but now I think "tut tut, tee hee" which is much more fun. My best friend and I have some running jokes going on which must be nearly a quarter of a century old - a joke just gets better with the patina of long use. CD, if you don't feel like that then that's your prerogative, but I can't help feeling you are missing out on one of life's enduring pleasures.

It is me, i'm wearing an EAster Bunny head my brother brought to freak out the kids on Easter Sunday - he had a whole suit. They froze while Easter egg hunting and then the littlest ran screaming.

I have problems with MN too. Ever since I first logged on I have found myself drawn into its web of openness and support, and now find myself logging in everyday- I cannot leave!
Really though, I am a 'newbie' and I have never felt that my opinion is being overlooked, and have not been aware of a group of exclusive Mumsnetters at all. So far it has been a friendly, welcoming place.
What is a lentil weaver & who or what is 'cod' apart from a fish?
And I love AIBU.

And on another point, hunker got a real pasting recently, and people are always challenging cod and complaining about her. I don't see anyone with any real immunity. Actually except morning paper! She started a very rude thread and no one really gave her a hard time, maybe they were scared of being badmouthed in her roundup!

Some posters seem to slip in seamlessly - Boco, Wabbit and TMP I always think have been here much longer than you/they have

But flame i don't feel that's due to disdain, you post more to people you know. When i started posting i didn't expect people to react to me the same as people they'd known for years - it takes time to get to know someone on here just like in rl.

I don't get it when newbies get huffy about being ignored, you won't if you post and join in.

One point I will agree with... newbies do get ignored more - Oxygen gets much fewer responses than Flame, but Flame has put in the hours to get known.

Eh I'm not really sure about that wanna, people seem to assume that regulars like cod, hunker etc are immune from wrath, eh no! Pehaps they a bit more ballsy in their posts but this assumption that they are beyond reproach gets tiresome after a while and in fact is an insult to the majority of MN'rs who are by association being accused of colluding. Nobody but Nobody is top dog/queen bee or whatever euphamism gets bandied about. MN is a community!!!!!
