Spotting people who you know in RL on MN - What is the MN etiquette?

I'm sure it's been done before but what is the accepted MN etiquette when you spot or think you have spotted someone you know in RL?

TheBlonde - I had a similar thing, CAT'd the person and they never replied. Left it while, then 'spoke' to them on a thread asking them to CAT me. Nada.

Not sure whether I'd be paranoid to feel offended

OOO castaway...maybe we're being naughty...noone seems to be addressing the jumping in and just starting chating thing...never been able to keep my mouth shut tho and i'm off again....whoops...can't be too bad though as the blonde is talking to me...thanks for the explanation not sure how to do it though doah!

UmSami - CAT is now CAM = contact another mumsenetter, where you can send a msg to someone via the site

Man MNET is SO MUCH MORE COMPLICATED than I originally thought!!! I'm relatively new to this and don't get to chat as often as I like...what the heck is CATing...

AM i ok just plunging into conversations and starting to chat (as I am doing now)

Do I need to introduce myself...?

Correct me now if i'm rule breaking...major paranoia moment lurking LOL [desperately searches for crazy looking emoticon]

For the record...maybe I'm oblivious but i'd be kinda chuffed if I was spotted...glad to see that my comments were of note! RAther have it done quietly though...again what the BEEP is CATing hehehe

Hoxtonchick has very sharp eyes. You and I probably snatch each other's chicken kievs every other day, Dinosaur, and just haven't twigged.

Hoxtonchick also identified my DH and DS2 in the playground at London Fields - she didn't ask him "are you dinosaur's DH" though!

Hoxtonchick spotted me at a paddling pool but we had CATed etc so probably does not count

Been thinking about this again...
I never got any reply to my CAT and the person has now namechanged so they know who I am but I don't know their new posting name

I would ask them 'Is that You xxxx', if you REALLY knew is was them I would plague them with this by email/mail. Eventually they will get so fecked off with it that they will cave in go mad.

I discovered a MNer at DCs school. She had posted about a trip her child was on which matched my DDs school trip. I checked some of her old posts and new 100% it was her. I approached her the next day and she said had a feeling it was me before! Sadly she is no longer a MNer though.

I was spotted by a fellow MNer on my way to the labour ward last week. She posted on my birth announcement thread - not bothered one bit. Find it quite amusing actually.

I don't give a crap who "spots" me btw, I'm no different in real life and don't post anything on here that I wouldn't discuss with others anyway. I have no skeletons!

i have been spotted twice, both times by lurkers (i think). one was someone from work, the other a friend. didn't make me change anything. but i'm fairly indiscreet in real life anyway....

How on earth do you recognise someone from Mumsnet?
I can understand those who have put 2 and 2 together based on postings, but you can't just recognise a Mumsnetter in a supermarket surely?
