New member profile facility

Hello all,

We've added a function to Mumsnset so that you can set up a page about yourself that other people will eventually be able to see when they click your name on Talk. We figured this would work more easiliy better than starting a "member profile" thread, though you can of course still do that if you want to. If you go to the "my registration" link above you can get started from there if you'd like to set up a profile. This is of course totally optional, and only for those as want to do it. A number of people have expressed an interest in being able to do that over the months. If you do want to, remember you can answer as many or as few of the questions as you like.

You can set your profile to be "private" so only you can see it, or visible to all mumsnetters. There's also an intermediate level "Mumsnet mates" that lets you choose who can see it. You can set up a list of "mates" by following the "Mumsnet mates" link and typing their talk names into a box.

You can also set up a photo gallery for any pictures you'd to share with other Mumsnetters. For the moment, you can set these to be either public (any registered Mumsnetter could see them) or private to you. We'll add the intermediate level to them over the next day or so.

Anyway, take a look and, as ever, tell us what you think. It's still a work in progress, so we'd appreciate input on what people think works and what doesn't.

I've set up a sample page about me (must be mad). You can see it here .

Best wishes,
Tech

Now who is paranoid? I said nothing about you.

CountessDracula · 17/01/2007 15:57

no nor have I!

CountessDracula · 17/01/2007 15:56

no they are really out to get you

uwila · 17/01/2007 15:56

At least I have not typed any lies!

uwila · 17/01/2007 15:55

Well, I'm not going to give exact details so someone fraudster can get into my credit card details. I'm sure I've given outmy birthday on here at some point. So a quick search would give my date of birth. Do I really want those details public.

Actually I thought about commenting to tech earlier that age should be a drop down age range to avoid this problem.

Or maybe I am just paranoid.

NotAnOtter · 17/01/2007 15:52

Dear Tech - Is one of your films porn?

CountessDracula · 17/01/2007 15:50

UWILA
YOU CANNOT BE 35-40 THAT IS NOT AN AGE!

is it really any different to posting our names and photos?

it's not like we are posting our addresses so any tom, dick or harry knows where we live is it?

loads of people have blogs where they put pictures of there kids.

uwila · 17/01/2007 15:34

Ok I have to ask... does everyone really think it's a good idea to post your kids' pictures and names on the internet?

uwila · 17/01/2007 15:33

And don't forget the work section... thought I should probably change my blurb to say "Mumsnet addict masqueading as full time professional worker so I can pay the nanny so I can go to work and type on mumsnet"

CD, that's not you. The fangs are missing.

nappyaddict · 17/01/2007 15:23

Yay somebody loves me thanks for being my mate Shinyhappy. I was half way through doing mine when my mother appeared and I had tp pretend I wasn't using the puter!

CanStarveWillStarve · 17/01/2007 14:51

You could copy the instructions from iphoto help. I've sussed it now.

I know, I know, copyright blah blah blah

Tech · 17/01/2007 14:45

Some feedback on the problems reported so far....

Resize instructions for Mac and Windows:
I'm still writing them - they should be there by tomorrow.

Not all nicknames recognized by "mates" page: this should be fixed later today

Birthdates of children: that should be OK now.

Keeping having to log in: that is because we have been putting up fixes. Once it settles down, the problem will go away.

Regards,
Tech
