Hello all,

We've added a function to Mumsnset so that you can set up a page about yourself that other people will eventually be able to see when they click your name on Talk. We figured this would work more easiliy better than starting a "member profile" thread, though you can of course still do that if you want to. If you go to the "my registration" link above you can get started from there if you'd like to set up a profile. This is of course totally optional, and only for those as want to do it. A number of people have expressed an interest in being able to do that over the months. If you do want to, remember you can answer as many or as few of the questions as you like.

You can set your profile to be "private" so only you can see it, or visible to all mumsnetters. There's also an intermediate level "Mumsnet mates" that lets you choose who can see it. You can set up a list of "mates" by following the "Mumsnet mates" link and typing their talk names into a box.

You can also set up a photo gallery for any pictures you'd to share with other Mumsnetters. For the moment, you can set these to be either public (any registered Mumsnetter could see them) or private to you. We'll add the intermediate level to them over the next day or so.

Anyway, take a look and, as ever, tell us what you think. It's still a work in progress, so we'd appreciate input on what people think works and what doesn't.

I've set up a sample page about me (must be mad). You can see it here .

Best wishes,
Tech

Thanks mamama, where's yours?

Tech, I now see how to include it in the profile, but it's not showing.

mamama · 17/01/2007 04:59

Nope, no picture

sandcastles · 17/01/2007 04:58

Excellent, thanks for those tech.

How does the pic get into the profile page?

sandcastles · 17/01/2007 04:56

mamama, can you see any pics on mine?

Tech, I have uploaded a pic, but I says it can't be found

mamama · 17/01/2007 04:52

Skid Row, Sandcastles? And you said it was nowt interesting!

Tech · 17/01/2007 04:50

Clicking on a name should work now. Also the nickname history is fixed.

Tech

It's nowt exciting....not yet anyway...

mamama · 17/01/2007 04:45

Ooo, I'm waiting to read all about you Sandcastles!

sandcastles · 17/01/2007 04:42

Also, I don't get where you click to see a profile. I have just added some for me, clicked my name (am I right in thinking it's the name above a post?) & nothing different happens

Tech · 17/01/2007 04:41

I'm just fixing it. they'll be back in a minute or two.....

Glad it's not just me then!

mamama · 17/01/2007 04:38

I have the same problem as Sandcastles - all my nicknames have disappeared

mamama · 17/01/2007 04:34

Thanks Tech

(ps I meant, why no photo on your profile? )

sandcastles · 17/01/2007 04:31

Tech, in my registration, where it says "Your Nickname History" is is saying Couldn't find any recorded nickname changes.

I know I have had quite a few nicknames sinc ebeing registered...why can't I see them?

Tech · 17/01/2007 04:31

No, it's stored under your nickname, so if you become "ImConfidential" for a while and people click that they wouldn't see anything.

You can add a photo. you need to start by clicking the "photos" link at the top and upload them. Once you've done that, you can use one of them on your main profile page.

Cheers,
Tech

Actually, I have a question - how would name-changing affect this?

I mean, if I change my name for a more sensitive thread and had a public profile, would people still be able to see who I am?

Hope this makes sense, it's late...

mamama · 17/01/2007 04:25

Ooo, what a good idea!

Why no photo, tech?
