Dear MN
This site should be good, but it is full of people who should be getting help in RL.
Parents or carers should be spending time playing with their children instead of typing rubbish on here.
And then COD and all that stuff. Oh my.
I was touched when I joined and helped in the Xmas appeal and it was well planned.
The receiver has been having a hard time, I know and i was happy to give to anyone to make their Xmas abit brighter.
But, but what pisses me off when they then post about expensive gifts they brought for their kids, things I couldnt afford to give my kids this year. Whats all that about? Just didnt think did they!
One good thing has come out of it, and that is this experience has taught me a good lesson for the New Year and that is to hold those who are your friends and family in RL close to you and stop mucking around and wasting your time with people here who are trying to be funny, put you down or just offer rubbish advice.
Its all too much for a simple mum like me. I wish you all good luck in the future, but im off.
Only stayed 3 months, so take this as my notice of leaving.
I hope you all have a better and Happier New Year especially to those who truly deserve it like martianbishop.
Kind regards

I think (not entirely sure)that the OP was posted by someone who was rather hurt and wounded lastnight, and was having a bad MN's night, and therefore not an entirely rational post, more just an expression of her hurt.
I am finding a hard edge to MN's myself. I'm all for heated debate and frank exchange of views, but when people are genuienly upset, I don't understand the pull yourself together or fuck off attitude.

Someone on this thread said it's a site for parents with thick skins, or harder constitutions (or something like that can't be arsed to check so sorry if misquoting).
I personally hope not, I can go elsewhere for my macho culture I/when I want it.

Lazylou · 30/12/2006 14:02

Well said Custardo!

For some people this is their RL.

myrrhthamoo · 30/12/2006 14:01

We have a (ssssh) pretend tree - I want dh to help me get it all back in the loft and he goes back to work on NYD. Bored with Chritmas now anyway.

myrrhthamoo · 30/12/2006 14:00

As I am streaming with snot and have a glowing red and very sore nose I think it would be more lumpen-Rudolph than lascivious-dryad...

sunnywong · 30/12/2006 14:00

my msn isn't working, you two, I'm not really ignoring you you know

strip the xmas tree, before 6th jan, are you short on firewood?

motherinfurrierfestivefrock · 30/12/2006 13:58

You could strip with the Christmas tree, in a lascivious-dryad way?

myrrhthamoo · 30/12/2006 13:57

Me too MI...in my mind.

myrrhthamoo · 30/12/2006 13:57

But dh has been glued to Due South re-runs all day and I don't think he's fretting about neglecting the children...

I'm going to go and annoy him in a minute by stripping the Christmas tree (I will get in the way of the telly).

zippitippitoes · 30/12/2006 13:56

two of mine are somewhere on oxford street ..possibly topshop yuk and one is at the shops here

motherinfurrierfestivefrock · 30/12/2006 13:56

I am also writing the Great 21st Century Novel, of course.

Glitterygookwithchocsonthetree · 30/12/2006 13:55

Mine are out with dh and MIL and I'm 'working' (honest guv). Is that OK?

motherinfurrierfestivefrock · 30/12/2006 13:55

Mine are frolicking with a friend, although admittedly DD2 is looking even more chaotic than usual on account of nobody having brushed her teeth or hair today.

WideWebWitch · 30/12/2006 13:54

Oh, I regularly ignore my children to come here, please don't get the impression otherwise!

myrrhthamoo · 30/12/2006 13:53

My 5 year old is on the X-Box and my 9 year old is on the other PC shooting things.

Outed as a Bad Parent...ho hum.

Hello my lovely suzy-person

Pinkchampagne · 30/12/2006 13:52

I second what SchneeBallFight said about being encouraged to seek more RL support because of MN! The support from posters on MN has helped me make all kinds of moves that I may have avoided or put off otherwise! It is also good to be able to talk about things at any time of day or night, you know there will always be someone around on MN!
I am sorry you feel put out that your receiver appeared to splash out on expensive gifts after you donating a gift to them, but like others have said, some people were nominated because they have had a tough year & could do with a little something to lift their spirits a bit.
I did not nominate myself for the appeal, but did offer to donate something, so was very shocked to receive an e mail saying I had been nominated by someone to receive something.
I was sent a present for each of my boys & a little something for myself by two lovely, genorous MN'ers & I am so grateful to them both - it was a really lovely suprise.
I did feel a bit bad though, as I was not nominated because I couldn't afford Christmas, more that I have had a bit of a bad year.
I didn't spend a fortune on my boys for Christmas, but I got them what they wanted.
I am sorry you feel this way about things, but MN really is a great place.
I shall now go down to my abandoned children!

glitterfairyrenewed · 30/12/2006 13:52

MN has kept me sane through a divorce with an abusive and controlling man. It has provided me with advice, friendships and a space for calm, reason and fun. Sometimes there is nothing going on and the conversations are dull and boring but that is like real life imo.

Each to their own but why flounce off leaving messages like this?

WideWebWitch · 30/12/2006 13:52

yes, the impact is lost somewhat if we don't know who you are!

I have a dh who has taken one child out and an ex dh who is playing on the Wii with the other so I'm here.

myrrhthamoo · 30/12/2006 13:51

You haven't met me, MI. I'm a figment of my own imagination.

myrrhthamoo · 30/12/2006 13:51

I just don't get why you have to change your name to say you are leaving? Bizarre!

motherinfurrierfestivefrock · 30/12/2006 13:49

But the people on MN are real. I've met loads of them. Lovely, they are.

BeetrootsResolution · 30/12/2006 13:47

7 kids upstairs playing playstation, reading books, shooting with toy guns - darn it I should be playing scrabble with them rather than discussing 9/11.

Tortington · 30/12/2006 13:43

i thnk it rather depends on what you take or give to mumsnet.

i am sorry you have found it to be dissapointing and feel slighted with regards to your contribution.

there are a couple of people on mn who need serious real life help and refuse to go and get itbecuase this is easier. however i would bet my arse that there are tens more that have found courage through mumsnet to go on and make thier lives happier. and there are somepeople who use it as a great support for the mundanities that you wouldnt bore your worse aunt with.

today i have seen

advice for someone who wants to start their own business.

a thread about saddam hussain that has made me think about my own views on him and his execution with some very illuminating and intelligent posts.

support thread for a mnetter who has a husband in prison.

the lighter/darker side of ear piercing

home ed - debate/debacle.

a woman who is in an abusive relationship who is getting support regarding housing /social services.

its what you give and take to mumsnet which makes it. i am sure we all have mumsnetters we avoid or dont respond to. as we have had advce we take or leave.

nutcracker · 30/12/2006 13:35

I didn't see anyone suggesting that their kids were getting conkers and oranges.

SchneeBallFight · 30/12/2006 13:33

'This site should be good, but it is full of people who should be getting help in RL.'

I would never have gotten help in RL (for PND) if it hadnt been for MN. I live in the middle of nowhere, my friends have moved to the city and my mum is dead - sometimes I need to talk to someone and MN is always here.
