That really wasn't well handled was it MNHQ?

Yes, this is a telling off.

Your communication over the Calm Down Jeffrey incident was atrocious.

I find it shocking that you can be sat there, posting to us that all is well and under control when we can see, in front of our very own eyes, that someone was hacking MNHQ posts and editing them, and also posting under posters names and editing other posts as well as deregging and banning other users who insulted them.

The response from you was seriously lacking, on top of your coquettish rubbish about not putting 50p in the meter when you went down over night.

Its not on.

You have a duty to your posters when these things are happening to keep us all informed, we're not stupid and we deserve to be treated with a little more respect. Not fobbed off with half truths and blatant lies.

OP you pay fuck all so much to use this site and have every right to demand and dictate how this site should be ru and you obviously know how to admin a site like this waaaaaaay better than MNHQ, why don't you ask for a refund and then hop over to Mumsnet Towers and show them how to run it properly?

CoogerAndDark · 14/08/2015 19:04

They set it to a sort of cached version while they chased Jeffrey around with a broom with their skirts tucked in their knickers?

usualsuspect333 · 14/08/2015 19:03

It is in MNHQs best interests to keep their posters happy.

More posters, more clicks.

Of course, the flip side of this is that if they provide unsatisfactory customer service the user will simply go elsewhere, as has been suggested throughout this thread (although in the context if "if you don't like it, leave")

tribpot · 14/08/2015 18:56

This debate crops up regularly - do posters have any right to criticise MN when they allow free access to the site?

Justine gave an interview a couple of years ago which sheds some light on this. Mumsnet Limited wants to take a consultative approach with its users. Being MNers, we don't wait to be asked, we 'consult' at will.

Mumsnet Limited is a company worth (several) million pounds. You can read their accounts on Companies House if you like, I just did. This isn't a charity, it doesn't provide the forum purely as a nice thing to do. The forum feeds the business and the business feeds the forum. That's fine, no-one's expecting Justine and the other directors to sleep rough under Waterloo Bridge to keep us all in biscuit icons. But effectively the userbase is a business asset - Netflix don't sponsor threads to discuss films on the site in order to hear what the Mumsnet staff think of them.

Finally, MNHQ have never said they don't want to receive feedback from the community, far from it. They may fail to act on it with depressing regularity (drop down menus at the top of the page, anyone?) but if they don't want to read it they are free to ignore. This isn't the same as being invited into Justine's house and going 'don't think much of that wallpaper, and those curtains have got to go'.

CoogerAndDark · 14/08/2015 18:30

Could always start your own? Wink

Viviennemary · 14/08/2015 18:17

I missed it all too. Tried to log in and only go the phone lay out with the lists. So gave up. I don't get about personal details. It's nobody's bank account or anything like that.

AnyFucker · 14/08/2015 18:05

There are other parenting chat sites.

Queenbean · 14/08/2015 17:58

LtEveDallas

Totally agree with both posts

This is a free forum. If you don't like it, do feel free to go elsewhere. Mnhq do not "owe" you anything.

exLtEveDallas · 14/08/2015 17:44

Rudeness is subjective OP. I found your post to MNHQ extremely rude, and was irritated enough to be rude myself (although as it's probably the swearing that distressed you, I am willing to apologise for that - I have the mouth of a docker).

Your tone put my back up, and I posted in kind. You didn't "tell them you thought they'd made a mistake" you 'told them off' (your own words). Maybe look inwards first before complaining about me.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 14/08/2015 17:10

I think you did alright Brew Flowers

usualsuspect333 · 14/08/2015 17:07

Thanks Rebecca.

Samcro · 14/08/2015 17:04

i lost classic. I can't get it back, I am too old for all this new stuff

RebeccaMumsnet · 14/08/2015 16:53

@usualsuspect333

Is it safe to go into customise now?

I need to go and untick a box but don't want to lose classic.

If you are in classic now and you go into customise, make sure classic stays checked and then uncheck the box you'd like unchecked and then hit save.

You should keep classic.

Maybe all the changes led to a window for Jeffrey to sneak in? Even geeks get lucky sometimes.

I'm kind of with Eve on this tbh. HQ were trying to sort stuff out, posted and kept folks updated while the admin tools were being used by some dickhead with too much time on their hands.

I'm not sure exactly what it is some folks want. You're on a free site that has a much better forum than pretty much anywhere else and you're obviously prett invested in it, so why be so snippy?

Trending I fear is set to stay Maryz: we're at the point now where the word's entered the lexicon on social media sites, and we felt we needed to move with the times (I remember a similar wrench when people started calling them blogs instead of web logs ).

On the logging off issue - we thought we'd cracked this one but apologies if not. Could you let us know which device and browser you're using, and whether you're on the site or the app? Thanks Flowers

ASorcererIsAWizardSquared · 14/08/2015 15:23

oh god, i just spotted trending too.

ignore my thread, THAT is much more pressing issue!

What is this place? TOWIE?

It wont the Discussion of the Day, it'll be "Totes Amazeballs Writin, innit!"
