Isn't about time MNHQ started deleting posts that attack people's spelling and grammar?

(In advance I will say any of my posts are likely to have spelling and grammar mistakes)

It's such a shitty thing to do and often it is directed at poster who then feel they have to explain themselves and disclose they have dyslexia. I don't understand why MN tolerate people with potential disabilities being mocked in this way?

Why can it not be regarded as a personal attack and such comments deleted. Very often the arses that post comments about another posters spelling bring nothing else to the thread and usually it derails the thread and the OP's original issue gets lost in the ensuing bunfight.

OP posts:

Yes, and you're upset, I think, because I picked up on yours, when you feel you'd only talked about someone who likely isn't here reading this.

I get that.

I can see that it's not fun for someone to turn around and pick holes in your posts.

But what do you think it feels like to others? Yes, you're talking about your TA at a fee-paying school, but MN is a big place and I am fairly sure that comment will have struck home to other teachers than me.

I just don't see why it is necessary to validate the kinds of people who refuse to accept they might be upsetting others.

Timetoask · 29/05/2015 16:27

Ok, but first could we first start a campaign for people whose first language is supposed to be English start writing "would have" instead of "would of".

I think I'm with IknowIam. It gives me a heads up on that poster.

Although if I spell something and put a (sp?) after it, I wouldn't mind being given the correct spelling.

I think I said on the last big thread, about this. That I have my reasons for poor SPAG, but I certainly don't want to have to explain it every time I post. So I think the SPAG police really should think before they jump in to apparently help out.

JeanneDeMontbaston · 29/05/2015 16:24

Yes, and that is where.

Literally. Not even figuratively.

deadwitchproject · 29/05/2015 16:22

oops posted too soon...I meant to add that he is more relaxed about his writing when it's just me but totally diligent with work and with friends.

confused, you misread me. I've already pointed out that that post applies to lots of us - you're pulling us up by citing her as an example.

dead - good on your DH, but isn't it depressing people still have to go through all of this?

deadwitchproject · 29/05/2015 16:18

My DH was diagnosed with dyslexia later in life. The Ed Psychologist who conducted the test praised him for having achieved so much in his life - good school grades, A-levels, university etc. etc., knowing how much of a struggle it must have been for him. DH said most of his school days were miserable and confusing but he pushed through it.

He is amazing (to me) but he still asks me what I would like for diner. He cannot and probably will never be able to see the difference between diner and dinner. When he writes emails, text messages, reports for work, his writing is very intelligible as he uses spell checks and proof reads everything.

Or they could use this emoticon -

MollyAir · 29/05/2015 16:12

Ooops, that was a follow-up to IKnow, not a response to anyone else. Blush

Gilrack · 29/05/2015 16:12

I am admiring your work here, Jeanne.

IKnowIAmButWhatAreYou · 29/05/2015 16:11

Maybe like the "Karma" systems some other forums have.

Users could be rated for "Helpfullness", "Goadyness", "Cuntyness" - a simple colour code at the bottom would allow you to rate them without actually having to read any of the crap they post....

MollyAir · 29/05/2015 16:09

Oh, maybe we need a cunty box on the site, provided by MNHQ?

Flisspaps · 29/05/2015 16:09

No. Delete posts with poor grammar and spelling instead.

And those with hubby, hubs, Hun and kisses.

JeanneDeMontbaston · 29/05/2015 16:08

At 14.47 today, confused, about the TA at your school.

MollyAir · 29/05/2015 16:08

I think it's covered in the MN guidelines on "giving people the benefit of the doubt". So everybody should say to themselves: "maybe this person has a disability which means they don't always spell things in an orthodox way" or "maybe this person doesn't have English as their first language" before giving in to the hotly held desire to rip them to shreds and humiliate them.

IKnowIAmButWhatAreYou · 29/05/2015 16:05

I like it when people correct grammar and spelling.

It shows that they're cunty people doing a cunty thing for their own nefarious cunty reasons (not the "Greater Good" as they like to pretend).

I tend then to put them in the cunty box in my head - which means that every time their name pops up I think "cunt"..Works for me...

Beautifully done Jeanne Grin

JeanneDeMontbaston · 29/05/2015 15:59

How is pointing out someone misuses 'your' and 'you're' not pulling them up? In the context of this thread, that applies to lots of us.

I certainly wouldn't mind and atm my dear dh is away for a week and my English is terrible. I have been learning ks2 with dd over the past 3 years and I think we are just about working at level 5 now Grin
We were considering doing a SATS paper but have nobody to mark it for us.
