After the SN-not-in-Active-Convos but only in own link thing...

I never see any, because old habits die hard, and I keep clicking 'Active Conversations - All Topics'.

And I think that's a real shame.

Is that just me being dense and lazy ? It's obviously not hard to click the other thing...

I just wish it was integrated into the normal 'view' you get. I don't want to not be able to see it.

Am I alone ?

sorry GS- should have said, yes MNHQ were very good and were able to reassure me that it was almost certainy nothing sinister- but it left me feeling freaked. Just made me more aware about posting.

Jimjams2 · 10/11/2006 15:31

hmm to clarify- I don't regularly read areas that I never post in- that's what I find a bit weird about all this outrage.

Jimjams2 · 10/11/2006 15:30

yes, but if the regular poistersd in say feeling depressed (an area I occasionally read and learn from, but rarely post in) said they wanted to be out of active convos I wouldn't feel like I'd lost some huge part of mumsnet. If I wanted to read I'd go direct. I don't read areas that I never post in regularly though.

Agree with dino- it's not that difficult to find if you'rew genuinely interested. hell I spent my first years on mumsnet reading by topic, never used active convos at all.

Surely a lot of MN is reading and not contributing though?

I know that I tend to read a lot of the aspergers threads because my sister has very very mild (or the appropriate term) aspergers, and it is very helpful to get an understanding of her behaviour and also in some ways her childhood. We didn't know then, and she doesn't open up now, and here is the main place I can learn to understand her. I don't post on them though.

Greensleeves · 10/11/2006 15:03

The stalking thing is worrying . I hope you reported it.

hub2dee · 10/11/2006 15:01

Agree with the point you make about stalkers / weirdos jj... If someone is intent (for whatever odd reason) on posting in SN offensively, or in contacting people the way you were, they'll do it whether SN is listed in topics / included in Active Convos / apart from Active Convos. They'd probably do it even if it was password protected by bluffing a story about a non-existent child tbh.

This will probably get twisted - so be it- but when I read threads like this I am shocked by how many people who have never posted in SN ever, not once AFAIK, say its a huge shame that its gone because they can't read the posts anymore (although they could actually). I'm a bit uncomfortable with it tbh, stepping outside our front door turns ds1 into a freakshow, feel like that's been happening on here. And yes I know that will get twisted, but its how I feel.

Jimjams2 · 10/11/2006 14:53

I agree with Fio. I think I have started posting MORE in SN since the change. Would be interested to see how it panned out.

Yes Greensleeves stalked. By someone I had never come across before. And like Fio, I've had CATs from total strangers. I don;t think the current arrangement makes much difference to the risk of that tbh.

curlew · 10/11/2006 14:53

If the SN parents are happy with the new arrangements then so be it. I just think it's a shame that I no longer regularly read their thoughts and learn from their wisdom. I also think it's a shame that people on that thread don't get input from those of us who do not have SN children but who still might have something insightful to contribute. Was life really so bad for SN parents under the old system? Or was it just a few loonies who are easily identified and ignored?

Enid · 10/11/2006 14:32

I feel utterly unwelcome hunker

Enid · 10/11/2006 14:32

I feel like a weird intruder clicking the includes SN - so I never do

I hate the new arrangement - but you probably all know that by now

Still feel as though there's little or no point me reading or posting on specifically SN threads though, Emkana, after the recent furores. Happy to chat to anyone (as you know, I hope!) but feel like I'm intruding on the SN section.

emkana · 10/11/2006 14:28

You can set a link up in your favourites which will give not the for sale stuff but will include special needs:

www.mumsnet.com/SearchTalk?nobuy=y&lastn=60&o=&sn=y

hamstermunker · 10/11/2006 14:27

Unwelcome the wrong word - surplus to requirement better but still not right. Will think.

hamstermunker · 10/11/2006 14:26

If I click on With SN, I get peed off with the buy and sell threads and I'm unwelcome on SN threads anyway so I don't bother.

MamaG · 10/11/2006 14:26

I saw your thread 2shoes - I think it is quite importnat for parents of NT children to be able to offer support too (as we did on your thread), but I do think a majority vote wo uld be fairest to settle this?

MamaG · 10/11/2006 14:25

I've emailed MN to ask Jimjams....although its really nothing to do with me

2Shoes · 10/11/2006 14:25

Cappuccino i felt like that the other day so I posted in chat. people supported me. tbh though it wasn't a true sn situation and something that all parents dread.

Greensleeves · 10/11/2006 14:24

Stalked?

kandi · 10/11/2006 14:24

Cappuccino, please do post about your dd, I don't really get much time to get on MN, so I'm a bit clueless about the separate SN board, but post where you feel appropriate and I'm sure you'll get support

Jimjams2 · 10/11/2006 14:23

Agree MamaG- looking at users in a month would allow the regular users to be picked up.

Might be to much work for Mnet Towers to work out the regular users, but it would at least stop all this. I'm more than happy to go with any majority- I know that some people do feel strongly that they prefer it this way. The split seems pretty 50:50 to me so best to put it to a vote.

MamaG · 10/11/2006 14:20

Yes, I meant a vote from users of the SN board rather than teh whole board.

Think its the fairest way really

Jimjams2 · 10/11/2006 14:18

NO I'm not - but I don't see that having to post a thread asking for jokes on other subjects is that big a deal. Why would it have to be posted on SN?

All I want is not be bloody stalked.

I'm happy to go with the majority of users of the SN board. It would be a lot of work but the fairest way would be to find out who used the SN board in the month (whether their children are all NT or SN or a mix) before the change and then poll them and ask them what they want.

I'm more than happy to go with a majority decision from the users of the SN board.
