Where to post your 'introduction'?

Maybe I'm being blinded by the awkward forum navigation on MN (phpbb anyone? lol) but I can't see where new members can introduce themselves...

Is there anywhere?

I opened up that picture and then tried to close it by clicking on the red X at the top right, instead of the proper one at the bottom!

Glad I'm not the only one Blush.

Lancelottie · 29/04/2015 09:13

CuttedUpPear -- and bosom-hoiking, don't forget.

And viping. I assume that's what vipers do, anyway?

TheFirstOfHerName · 29/04/2015 07:46

I make no disguise of being an argumentative sod

In that case, welcome to Mn, you'll fit right in. Grin

Here are the FAQ:

Where should I introduce myself?
You don't. It isn't that sort of community. Lurk until you have something to say, then just say it.

Should I start a thread in Site Stuff making suggestions about how the boards should be organised?
Not until you have been posting regularly for a while, and maybe not even then.

CuttedUpPear · 29/04/2015 07:35

A word of warning - we don't lol here.

We do enjoy a little pearl clutching however.

daisychain01 · 29/04/2015 02:17

Hey we could start an Icebreaker thread yay yy!

You start, Vincent

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 29/04/2015 01:49

God I'm an idiot - I opened up that picture and then tried to close it by clicking on the red X at the top right, instead of the proper one at the bottom! Grin

A 1989 forum would look like this Grin

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 28/04/2015 20:09

I think you'd actually fit in quite well here VincentT.

Welcome to Mumsnet Smile

Lancelottie · 28/04/2015 18:39

I love the idea of a 1989 forum.

CatsCantTwerk · 28/04/2015 13:43

GiddyOnZackHunt I remember the dog forum woman Grin

GiddyOnZackHunt · 28/04/2015 13:38

1989? Don't be silly.

PerspicaciaTick · 28/04/2015 13:37

I think this thread has been a huge service to the MN community and would like to thank VincentT for doing such an excellent job of introducing themselves. I don't think anyone who has read it will be under any illusion about the sort of poster the OP is. I look forward to future bunfights threads with interest.

Welcome Flowers.

BertieBotts · 28/04/2015 13:36

I loathe introductions areas on websites. I always feel really awkward not knowing what to write, and then what is the protocol about replying when one is an established member? Most people's posts seem to consist of "Hi, welcome to the site! "

Is it just me? What's the point? I mean it's not like people go and look up your welcome post to check how many children you have or whether or not you like horseriding is it?

Just read posts at random until you find an interesting one and then reply to it.

GGabcd · 28/04/2015 13:35

Um, as you can see, Mods do have an indication that they are mods.

Their name contains Mumsnet and it says (MNHQ) and their posts are blue.

The rest of your post I agree with. It's like being on a board in 1989.

RebeccaMumsnet · 28/04/2015 13:29

Welcome VincentT,

As others have said, no need for introductions, unless you really want to, just jump in.

There is some info on getting started here , a list of the commonly used acronyms and just to keep you on the straight and narrow Smile we have very few rules around these parts but we do ask MNetters to follow our Talk guidelines

Active is a good place to start or you can find a full list (make a cuppa, it's long!) of topics here.

HTH

Welcome, we look forward to seeing you around Smile

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 28/04/2015 12:49

Actually, if you're an argumentative sod, you'll probably fit in quite well!

I suggest name changing and getting stuck in!

ChangingTiming · 28/04/2015 12:43

I like the simple non sparkling layout. I don't want it to list how many posts I've made, nor to have a tracker. And I can swear when I fucking want to, its great.

ouryve · 28/04/2015 12:42

And, I think I've got the hang of you, already, Vincent.

Bye now.

Lancelottie · 28/04/2015 12:41

Yup, remeber it well, Giddy! (Probably from the last time I was this bored...)

I'm surprised you find this site so baffling, though, Vincent. It seems pretty easy to use, honestly. Was there anything particular you were looking for?

ouryve · 28/04/2015 12:40

You don't need to introduce yourself formally. Most people wouldn't even see it, anyhow, as it's impossible to read everything here unless you never do anything else with your life.

KatoPotato · 28/04/2015 12:38

How you getting on with that rival site research?

VincentT · 28/04/2015 12:30

Lancelottie - I make no disguise of being an arguementative sod...

However if MN was full of useless info and idiot members I wouldn't care if new members found actually getting to the useful/friendly stuff easy or not.

That's what's frustrating...

GiddyOnZackHunt · 28/04/2015 12:27

Oh god it's not the forum police back again? That woman who'd run the dpg forum and demanded to know which software was being used. Anyone else remember that?
