Could warnings to people be issued by PM rather than email?

magimedi · 23/03/2015 12:12

This is not a TAAT but has been raised on another thread.

WorraLiberty has summed this up well & (with her permission) I am quoting her from another thread:

"I don't use a phone for Mumsnetting, so I would actively have to log into my email to check on the off chance that HQ might have sent me a warning for something.

Rebecca said... We have temporarily suspended her account for personally attacking several times on the same thread in a short space of time when we have sent previous warnings about similar behaviours.

If it was in a short space of time, she might not have seen the emails.

Whereas if her inbox lit up, she probably would have and then heeded the warning.

It's how lots of forum moderators do it."

It seems such a good idea. Not all of us use phones for Mumsnetting.

Olivia

I like "Cut It Aaaaht"

Mumsnet Calling conjures up an image of one of you standing on top of a lighthouse and making a loudspeaker with your hands, shouting "Ziiiiiiiing" "Ziiiiiiing" while another is waving a Mumsnet banner trying to catch my attention.
it's a lovely image but going "Oi, you, cut it aaaaht" would be more effective
Wink
just sayin'

@Maryz

MrsH, I find it weird to get it the other way around - I'm used to emails from MNHQ addressed to MaryZ, but did a slightly panicked double take one day when Olivia addressed me by my real name (which isn't Mary by the way).
DID I?!? I blame the gin twins. Grin

I'mTheRealZingShadyI'mTheRealSadyCozAllYouOtherShadysJustImitatingSoWontTheRealZingShadyPleaseStandUpPleaseStandUpPleaseStandUp

that is my full name

MrsHathaway · 25/03/2015 07:26

Wait, your name isn't Mary?! Next you'll tell me Zing isn't short for Zingderella. Pfft.

I'm thinking of the very many posters who don't mind or can't help if their partners see their emails, but who don't want those partners to know their MN name.

MaryZ

who do you mean? me?

you all know it's me. That's not sockpuppeting

(I had to change back to this one as I was trying to sort out the email situation. got some answers but not sorted yet. I need my drama name back. most appropriate )

MrsHathaway · 24/03/2015 19:52

On the subject of emails, and I've said this before, would it be possible not to mention usernames in emails?

Eg I receive:

To: Real Name
Subject: Cut it aaaaaaaht

Dear MrsH

Peace, love and Biscuit.

Olivia

We aren't going to pretend everyone's totally private about their email. The only association between the username and email address should be "backstage".

Harrumph.

The lovely Sandy has PMd you to sort.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 24/03/2015 11:37

but i don't want newsletters, sorry. i get bombared with tons of emails all the time. I hate emails

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 24/03/2015 11:35

hi Rebecca

I've tried to update email just now but I can't.
went into "MyAccounts" , put in new email, confirmed password, done.
got an email to confirm password before details are changed BUT it is showing changes for ZingNinjaRoll and there's no option to change that username (also me).
grrrr.

I even went back and tried to change back to ZingNinjaRoll only a message came up to say it's already in use. (yes, I know that it's in use, I've bloody used it aarrrggghhhh. Angry )

so what do I do now? I can't seem to change my email and now I remember that I had the same problem when I tried it over a year ago.

is there any chance you could PM me pls?
thank you

WorraLiberty - cake is a fab idea, as long as we get all our reports in cake form as well Cake

We would be enormous Grin

magimedi · 24/03/2015 10:33

[flowers} Rebecca.

I sincerely hope you are considering the Cake idea!

Thanks all for the suggestion. We will have a think.

As has been mentioned, if you are banned, then you can't access PMs so we won't ever switch to just PMs. We also have the issue of lots of staff who work flexible hours in the evenings and weekends and could miss replies, or not receive them for days.

We could look at a prompt PM to say you have an email in certain circs? We'll raise it at our next Very Important Meeting.

To those who don't use their registered email addy Shock you are missing out on our wonderful, lovingly constructed emails and newsletters. If you want to update your email address, pop into My account and to change it Thanks

giraffesNeedBigPoloNecks · 24/03/2015 00:02

agree - I don't use my email I am signed up with

WorraLiberty · 23/03/2015 23:39

Brilliant idea...apart from those people who refuse to answer a knock/ring on their door Grin

Fair point!

They could always leave the warning with a neighbour?

Oh no, wait.....bad idea! Grin

FruChristerOla · 23/03/2015 19:10

"I like the personal approach myself. So the only proper course of action is for someone from MNHQ to come around to your house. What could possibly go wrong?"

Brilliant idea ... apart from those people who refuse to answer a knock/ring on their door Grin

Love the cake, Worra Cake!
