Would we be able to have a spiritual life board??

There seems to be quite a few mums here who like the alternative way of looking at life. several of us chat on threads about all different mediums and angles of spirituality. So far we have 7 or so threads going but it would be great to have different subject headings. It will hopefully attract more people as its not always easy to find like minded mums with this interest. Would love to know what you think. We also wnat to dispel the theory that you have to be a hippy to be spiritually inclined.

Melsy I kinda meant Budhism and that kind of thing alongside the pagan and what people would call more obscure spirtiuality I think religion ( church Mosque Temple etc ) is / should be a separate thing.
Personally I think we should have a board dealing with clarvoyence , reiki, cystals etc. if only to share peoples experiences

I wouldn't be interested in it, but I have no interest in diets etc so don't bother with the diet section either. Ditto multiple births, teenagers etc etc etc. People can pick and choose what to look at.

I didnt mean that to sound terse kayleigh. Just that I have a bit of a complex that thats what people think of me & therefore avoid me. I am about lots of other things too.I dont always talk about this all the time. Its just that talking on here on this subject just focuses attention to it a bit more than in RL.

Mudda, why does it have to be a negative heated discussion. Its a bit different to religion I feel. I dont feel we are preaching anything. Or even making people interested who arent, as I have said I beleive that people can choose this or not it is totally thei won way that they need to go.

I should have known there would be a bit of upset. But its no different to having mind body spirit section in a bookshop. I see plenty of diff people standing in that bit all the time.

I don't know if there's a need for a separate topic as such, but Melsy et al. have raised an interesting point about how spirituality (for want of a better word) intersects with parenting. Although I'll post on here for advice about this, that and the other, ultimately dh and I look to God for guidance and encouragement in the big issues and the smaller ones too to a certain extent.

For example, when ds was first born, I was overwhelmed and a bit low for 2/3 weeks while trying to get breastfeeding going. I read every book under the sun, but dh and I also prayed about it - for increased strength and perseverence and for wisdom to know what the heck to do next with a newborn.

Similarly, our choice for using cotton nappies has been influenced by our beliefs. Apart from all the economic and health benefits, we see it as being responsible for the part of the planet we live on. The Bible calls it "stewardship" because we're meant to be stewards of the Earth while we live on it.

I don't think I've really talked about this sort of thing with anyone other than dh, because even in our circle of Christian friends, it's rarely mentioned that faith is totally bound up with the way you bring up your kids (if you have a faith).

So yes, there is another aspect to parenting for some mums and dads. But a topic on a site like this might just lead to big heated debates. Maybe there's another place for people searching for answers to bigger questions?

Take no notice of the others. Each to their own I say. I don't understand half of your threads but the half I do sound interesting and it sounds like you know your stuff.
If people don't like it they should just ignore the threads.

(Melsy, i still love ya babe - doesn't matter how wierd you are )

very good point Juniper. Would be a huge draw back if that was would the board was dominated by. Which God to believe in - and mine is the only right one etc.

It would have to be respected as an open space for open minds etc. Of course don´t want to be too light headed about the whole thing.. of course there will probably be twigs in the stream sometimes!!

juniper68 · 20/04/2004 10:44

BTW glitterfairy I hope your trip/work in dublin goes well. I love it there and can't wait to go back again.

juniper68 · 20/04/2004 10:43

Morning all,
Hope you're feeling ok Melsy? Maybe if we do get a board we could have one thread just for debating so that no one gets upset as spirituality/religion is a tricky subject sometimes and to be honest I wouldn't hang around anymore if it got to be so negative. I appreciate peoples views on the subject but we're here to support one another, motherhood is hard enough without more hassle.

glitterfairy · 20/04/2004 10:38

If you had a spiritual board you'd have all the Christians praying for you to ditch the New Age stuff for starters
