Has Mumsnet dumbed down over the past couple of years IYO? Or, if you're new, what's your impression?

Intergalaticus I agree. But on my first week I got crucified. I have also seen other newcomers similarly crucified. Please go easy on newcomers.

I find txt spk, just like my version of shorthand, im that used to using it, but i realise that not everyone likes it, i just forget sometimes, i dont use it intentionally to annoy, well not all the time

gawd, text speak is a total pain to read though - it probably takes just as long to type it on a keyboard aswell. I mean, if you want something long to be read, surely it's better to just use real words?

But really what is the point of this thread, sounds like us newcomers must have diluted the level of intelligence on this site.

I remember when you could look at the 'last day' threads in an hour. Now it takes ages. I also think it is me who has cnanged. I rarely use the child threads, and rely more on the chat/art & craft/weight loss/relationships/depressed etc threads. i.e. I don't use MN for my ds anymore. It was immensely useful in the first two years though, and got me through many a 'worrying mother' moment.

The way I think of it is that when I joined, I loved the CBeebies threads, and all the gossip about who was on the programmes etc. Now it bores me to tears. Ds has moved on and so have I. Not to say that these threads aren't valid any more. Also, I have seen about 6 'how did you get your name' threads. The first one I read avidly, and then it all became like deja vu. Again, not to say that the threads aren't a good way to get to know posters.

I don't do baby stuff because, although I'm just a few motnth away from producing another one I find it all boring.

I've already been through it all 3 times so don't really want chat about that...I come here to get away from the kids, to moan about them (and DH), to laugh, and be a grown up.
I can't imagine that will change once this one is born either.....This is my sancutary, so it's annoying when I can't find anything to interest me.

I don't 'do' much baby stuff either since I can't remember most of it, and what I do remember is now probably not the thing to do anymore
