Has Mumsnet dumbed down over the past couple of years IYO? Or, if you're new, what's your impression?

Well? Just wondering what people think about this. Even if you're new, what's your view? (I don't want to be accused of oldster cliqueiness, I'm interested to hear what new people think too)

God how sad. I am new, unfortunately, and I was just thinking how intelligent/witty mumsnet is compared to all the other horrible, saccharine mum/baby sites.

Now I worry that i am finding even the dumbed down version quite interesting.

But at least from now on I will punctuate my posts properly to avoid accusations of illiteracy.

Waits for a pedant somewhere to point out errors herein.........

It's got bigger and therefore more diverse. It used to be like a dinner party, now it's more like, I dunno, a city or something. So it is harder to find the clever, witty stuff.

Another cheer for nappiesLaGore. I sometimes dont bother with capitals and abbreviate etc when posting, I like checking out mumsnet but I dont have all day and posts need to be typed quickly, to avoid overlap if nothing else! I really think the elitiest vein to some threads on here is awful - maybe there should be exams to gain access to the site?

I do have a mobile, but only use it for real emergencies (and probably only use about £10.00 of credit in a year). don't know what that makes me, though. Probably a bit mean with my money!

dh has one - to keep on him whilst dd1 is at nursery.

My DP doesn't have a mobile either eis, and people think he's weird. I salute him for it. I bloody hate the things.

Have only skim-read this but as a long term lurker (approx 2 years) and a poster for about one year I don't think MN has dumbed down.

It's become more open in some ways and yet more cliquey in others. New and different people are joining all the time - I can think of several posters who are newish but who are percieved to have been around for ages (which is a good thing)

There is a tendency for 'attitude' atm i feel though.

DH posts regularly on BBC's have your say - he was looking at one on the Jack Straw/veil thing the other day, so I sent him a link to the MN one - he was amazed at how much more insightful, intelligent & literate it was than the BBC one.

I haven't been here long enough to know if it has dumbed down but I don't care if it has tbh; I am not particularly bright myself

and on the day when I find it dull and dumb most of the time, I shall stop posting here and do something else instead
