"You have a message" with a red flashing envelope. It's giving me a headache - literally. And ids on the top of every third thread I open. I much prefer adverts in the body of the text.

It's on every third or fourth thread I open "win an iPhone 6". Come on, MN - you know there are a lot of vulnerable people here who don't have money at this time of year. People who might be tempted to click on it, then think they'd won a phone. Quite apart from the fact that the flashing goes against all web accessibility guidelines.

It's amazing tech can't 'catch' it when it appears on my threads all the bloody time. See picture from 2 minutes ago!

It's back again

NotAnotherPackedLunchBox · 16/12/2014 16:45

It has just popped up yet again.
Any chance of getting tech to sort it -or are they all drunk at their Christmas lunch today?

LineRunner · 16/12/2014 16:39

Sigh.

Tanaqui · 16/12/2014 16:37

I had it a minute ago but forgot to take a screenshot, sorry.

Patilla · 16/12/2014 16:34

I've just got that irritating flashing banner with an envelope designed to look just like a mn message.

Nearly clicked on it in error.

Really quite frustrating.

GoogleyEyes · 16/12/2014 15:38

@SorrelForbes

moplayapp.com/p/w/uk/3/?s=2113233793. here you are. Bloody annoying.

Thanks for catching that one, Sorrel, we'll flag it to our Tech folk.

Sorry for all the faff, everyone. Sad

WipsGlitter · 15/12/2014 20:27

I've just had it. Very annoying.

BusyBumbleBee15 · 15/12/2014 20:14

Ironically I now see it on top of this thread...

ArthurSHappeyChristmas · 15/12/2014 20:13

I'm amazed they can't 'catch' it though... It's appearing about once every 8 threads for me when browsing.

I think MN have a generic ad service. Calls to adseller.site/mumsnet are allowed. Then the generic ad service will spew out whatever.

Tech cannot bar the generic ad service, all revenue would cease. When the offending ad pops up, they CAN trace and block that one specific ad. But yes, unless someone sends MNHQ the URL referrer ti the bad ad, they will have to be sat there trapping stuff when it appears in order to trap the address and enter it into the blocking filters.

Disclaimer: this is a very generic explanation.
