Brain wave to raise fund for MN!!

what do ya all recon to a cook book, which is full of nutrious, wholesome meals, but also cheap for those on budgets?

thought it could be done like the MN books they already sell, or do u have to have a qualification or something for cook books?

Sorry it's taken us a while to get to this. As it happens we did explore this idea quite seriously about a year ago and even talked to a couple of publishers but neither of them wanted to proceed at the time. We still think it's a great idea and it's one we hope to revisit at some point in the future. In the meantime if you do have a recipe suggestion you'd like to share you can post it here

We did something like this at HomeStart because our famillies just didn't know how to cook. basic stuff- a casserole made from veggies, tinned tomatoes and tinned chickpeas / cannelini / black eyed peas (no salt) that was fine blended for abbies, or could have a touch of chilli added and served with bread for adults, that sort of thing. We didn't really push it sales wise but the famillies found it really useful.

How to make your own custard was one of the popular ones, along with tomato sauce to be used as a basis for all sorts; shepherds pie; stew....a llt he old ones that you either learn from your family or not

lol at the quicky meals and nuffin meals - we have ifit's! lol.

MN towers (abby) said there's a meetin tomorrow and she'll bring it up then so fingers crossed it's somethin they fancy doing as well

Meals in minutes:

Put bread in toaster
Put beans in microwave

3 minutes later - voila

garnish with grated cheese (optional)

Also meals for "nuffin" ... "What do you fancy for tea?" "NUFFIN!!!"

Could you do something that is time-oriented IYSWIM:

Often I have 60 seconds to sort out a meal for a 14 month old IYSWIM, othertimes I might have more time to sort something more edible, LOL...

pop - no specific reason, just thought a cook book was a good idea - if the towers don't want the money perhaps we could spilt it between several charities or something?

lol heavenis - ah finally got my act together in the new house! DH is away and the PIL are looking after the boy ! lol.

will consult the towers then to see whta they recon, but as flame says it's the idea of only using what's in the cupboard that most of us have the appeals to me cos all these JO/GR ones and that u need loads of stuff mainly expesive which u don't have/like.

incidently whom ever gave me ideas with the potatoe wedges did em l;ast night with paprika and basil - gotta say it they were fab - will do em again when DH comes home - can't waitt o try home meade pizza now as well.

also sometime's it's nice just to do something differnet for tea instead of the same old 6/7 meals you always seem to do.

I like the idea of basics... Like Tamba's "how do I cook a roast?" thread - I can cook, but I don't know HOW to cook many things, and all the recipe books I have involve insane amount of specialist ingredients etc and take 12 hours to prepare.

A book with everyday meals, lunchbox idea etc sounds great.

We could have a whole series on all topics - I think it's a fab idea. And I presume money could go to well chosen, appropriate charities or to help out with the odd lawsuit

I think that deciding who and what goes in would be a bit of a minefield and I would reccommend just having a huge name-check type thankyou thing at the front. And copyright isn't a huge problem with recipes as long as they aren't absolutely verbatim and they won't be as each one would have to be tested so as to make sure it worked.

lol, cheese cake, should we consult towers bout it or just get on with it? I think it's a fabby idea, (andf if anyone has a mild curry recipe it would be fab)

see I don't know how do to sauces for pasta etc so end up buying the jars which are prob full of salt and god knows what else, so those wi=ould be ogod to know.

A new thread should be started specifically for mn recipes and then at the end of a decided period someone culd be allocated to pick through the best and then the book could be compiled.

As well as an mn tip at the top/bottom of each page, you couls also have a 'quote of the day/week' about parenthood so you have something to chuckle about while you are cooking.
