Official Mumsnet mobile thread numéro deux

Hi all,

As you know we have launched the new mobile site, we know it's a big change and we are still very keen to get it right with your help. This is very much a version that will evolve with your help as part of the testing process.

There have been a few glitches that have/are being ironed out and the HUGE thread has nearly maxed out, so we thought it best to start a shiny new one.

We know change is tricky but, as with most things MN, we are all ears and happy to look at any feedback you have on ways we can improve the new site.

Thanks all Thanks

Mine has suddenly decide to say ALL the messages instead of pages - I didn't even change any settings for this to happen!

Coumarin · 22/08/2014 17:19

Good improvements made today. Thanks for listening to the feedback and acting on it. Very reassuring.

Cake and Wine for you all.

@HaveYouTriedARewardChart

Just a suggestion Smile

What about a formal feedback function where people can submit specific issues by selection / drop down, including make, OS, browser etc. So you can easily pick out the functional issues from the look & feel type of feedback.

Also, a list of "popular" issues and the status towards resolution so that you don't keep getting complaints about the same thing.

Anyway - have a good weekend!

All good ideas! When we start the third thread we'll try to add in a rolling list of where we are with things.

Hope everyone has a good long weekend

Germgirl · 22/08/2014 17:13

Oops. That was a classic RTFT wasn't it? I see my issue has already been raised.
slinks off, ashamed

Germgirl · 22/08/2014 17:11

TIO has gone weird. iPhone 5c iOS 7.1.2. Safari.
It was just listing the threads I'm on & I could access the thread by clicking on the title. Now it's showing the thread title & previews of the last 5 posts, most recent at the top. I can't read the post by clicking on the thread title, I have to click on on of the last posts. And it doesn't go to my bookmarked post, it goes to the last post of the thread.

right, since I changed to 1000 posts at once, it's taking me way back in the thread and taking aaaaaages to load.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/08/2014 17:02

Sorry - we've flagged this to tech but tbh we're running out of time now for them to do any more bug fixes before end end of the day so this may not get looked at until next week now.

No worries. You've all done an amazing job CakeWine

RowanMumsnet · 22/08/2014 16:58

@mipmop

Thanks for the TIO change but now I can only access a TIO through pressing a recent post, so I can't press the title and go to my bookmark (having only just yesterday enabled bookmarks). On old mobile site from TIO you could either go to a topic, go to a thread, or go to a recent post.

Me too...

RowanMumsnet · 22/08/2014 16:57

@MultipleMama

Rowan I tried that. It's not there.

Thanks, sher!

Sorry - let us know if you still can't find it once you've checked it's turned on in the desktop. If so, let us know what phone/OS/browser you're on please.

Rowan - no, not via the desktop site - sorry!

@HaveYouTriedARewardChart

And no bookmark option under the three dots on the galaxy mini.

Have you turned it on via the desktop site first? (Sorry if so!)

RowanMumsnet · 22/08/2014 16:50

@ScarlettDarling

Still no customise button. Still no ellipsis. (Samsung galaxy ace)

There do seem to be some compatibility problems with Galaxy Aces and Nokia Lumia phones. It's on our list. Apologies

HaveYouTriedARewardChart · 22/08/2014 16:48

And no bookmark option under the three dots on the galaxy mini.

RowanMumsnet · 22/08/2014 16:48

On the geo-location point made earlier on, ShamTech says:

'Neither Mumsnet nor its ad providers make use of the phone's geolocation facilities (gps) and this cannot be done anyway without the user's explicit permission. On sites that do request the user's location from the phone, the user is first asked (in a popup) if they want to allow this so that the location is not revealed to the site without the user's knowledge. The site is not able to bypass this security measure - it is part of the phone operating system and browser.

The ad providers use the IP to do a broad geolocation but that has absolutely zero relation to the device and battery life.'

HaveYouTriedARewardChart · 22/08/2014 16:47

My feedback from earlier on, with phone model and updates!

Samsung galaxy mini. Browser... I don't know - just an icon with the word "Internet" Blush

I was quite positive at first but after a few days these issues:

pages slow to load and keep closing as unresponsive

the three dots under each post, when it brings up the options I can't use them seems to be ok now!

not able to reply using the box at the bottom this morning ditto!

  • really don't like only being able to see a few posts at once. I've used it a lot less over the last few days as it makes scanning and browsing the discussions much more of an effort.
Lweji · 22/08/2014 16:44

I'm not sure I want to get rid of the shortcuts, though. :) They are handy. And if I click on the down arrow the thread goes down and I can read it.

I found customise somewhere, but it got stuck meanwhile.

It still doesn't seem to like long threads, so I may need to start paginating. :(
But I'm on a dodgy free Wi-Fi service atm, on holiday. I'll report back when I'm at home on proper Wi-Fi.

(I hope you have included a link to mobile on the desktop site, btw - at least one that I can find)

RowanMumsnet · 22/08/2014 16:39

@MultipleMama

I know it's been asked a thousand times but does anyone know how I can bookmark? Thank you, in advance! xx

Because I can't find it...

Hit the ellipses/three dots at the bottom of the post.

Sherborne · 22/08/2014 16:36

@MultipleMama

Thanks to Pipbin, I know this now...

Switch to desktop mode
Click "Customize" on a thread
Set: Display bookmark links: Yes
Hit Save
Switch back to mobile Smile

RowanMumsnet · 22/08/2014 16:34

@Lweji

On a positive, it seems to be working a lot better on my iPod Touch. And great to have last few posts on TIO. There's still a bit of navigation to get used to, but I think it will be ok.

But haven't tried long threads...
And the blue thingy is still stuck and over the posts.

You can turn the blue (shortcuts) bar off via Customise Lewji - do you know how to get there?
