So, as you've noticed we got a new bunch of people supplying us with ads on a kind of loop if we don't sell the space. Probably time for a discussion on what we can live with and what we can't. Especially as I'm at a wedding tomorrow and then on hols for 2 weeks and won't have to be involved .
So tell us who you a) dislike b) can't bear c) veto or you're off.

I agree with Franny and FIT. Advertising McDonalds on a parenting site sits very badly with me.

Yes to MacDonald's, my children love the Happy Meals.

Their toys are fabulous even if the nuggets make me vomit.

Advertising a product that you and all of your 'friends' are very anti to begin with would only work on 'thick plebs' (you've such a way with words ) yes.

Advertising a product that you hadn't heard of and making it sound appealing could work on anyone - hands up if you've never heard of McD's!

Advertising a product that you had an inclination towards to begin with could work on anyone. I'm sure those that are inclined towards McDs will be rampaging through the streets waiting for them to open their doors for breakfast as a result of adverts on here. So, that'll be an extra McMuffin of sales for them then.

macdonalds is fine with me -

surely if everyone can retrain themselves to think of lentil broth instead of big mac then it wont be so bad,

have you tried Kew (the clothes shop) for advertising? I didn't actually know they had an online site till someone pointed it out on here.

(wracking brains for other suitable advertisers)

I agree that advertising works very well - bet boden have made a mint from MNetters but that is because most MNetters view it as desirable (not me - overpriced IMO) MacDonalds on the other hand...

Franny - we're not naive enough to think that advertising per se doesn't increase sales, but we are more familiar with MN than McD's are, and thus in a better position than they to say that we don't think that advertising here will increase sales.

but I don't believe that most MNetters are naive enough to want to buy macdonalds burgers just because they are advertised on here - especially with the regular bashing their food gets on discussions. Correct me if I am wrong but I thought we were a rather intelligent bunch? I am not pro-macdonalds at all BTW and think the food is rank but dont think it would make much of a difference on here.

I think it's astonishingly naive to think that advertising does not increase sales. Why the dickens do you all think the companies shell out billions of pounds in advertising every year?

I dont really believe that an ad on here to info about macdonalds' food will have us all rushing out in hoardes for a bigmac. Doesnt bother me what is advertised - I dont have to click if I am not interested and barely notice them anyhow.

Justine - did you hear that I was on your plane to Glasgow the other week? I was too shy to talk to you incase it wasnt you iykwim!
