Mumsnet demo TOMORROW

Who is up for a protest outside Random House/Vermillion (who publish that book) TOMORROW? It will be in London. Possibly wearing gags (silenced by xxx).

Wannabe, I appreciate your points, but there's stuff I can't say on here for legal reasons IYSWIM.

Bringing children along would be a good idea for a demo by mothers about a parenting website - make great pics for the press. It's not as if we are going to have a pitched battle with the cops and get arrested!

edam I take your point about it needing to be tomorrow, but it really is too soon to organize, instead of demonstrating tomorrow maybe we could contact some media organizations, bbc, gmtv, sky (ultimate tabloid tv) and try and get ourselves on there explaining our cause. I'm up for going on national tv to explain what we're campaigning for, we can still be pro-active without having to demonstrate straight away. A well-thought out demonstration will gain more positive press than one that was organized at the last minute.

agree tomorrow is too soon. If you do it next week then there is time to get some publicity about it - get the fact there will be a demonstration in the media - sunday papers, radio, tv, a couple of days before it will happen and then there is more chance the media will be there to cover it. I would suggest demonstrating either outside the offices of an internet provider, to bring across the idea of the internet, or outside downing street to emphasise the change in the law we want. I definitely don't think demonstrating outside the officers of publishers are a good idea, and instead of having gags would suggest we had megaphones to emphasise the fact we want freedom of "speech".

I also think people should arrange childcare as I don't think a demonstration is a good place for children, the media take a dim view of people who take their children along to protests.

I know it's short notice but there's a reason, partly to do with the need to keep the story in the public eye. Thursday always a good day to issue press releases but can't remember why, tbh!

Need dozens of people to sign up for definite to make this happen. It would be helpful, honest! CAT me or sign up here and I'll post full details.

I have no problem with a demo. I doubt it would be too rowdy .
but tomorrow is deffo too soon, just from a practical POV.
we would need to be clear that we are demonmstrating against the threat to free speech not the routines/books.
next week maybe
