Has she changed nickname ?

OP posts:
Greensleeves · 07/05/2006 23:37

I doubt very much she would be here under a different name. It doesn't sound like the sort of thing she would do IMO.

expatinscotland · 07/05/2006 23:37

I doubt it, Hunker. IMO, the other poster was just as bad and should also have had her posts deleted. I don't blame Aloha. She deserves an apology. Others have lost their cool as well, for example, I reported a VERY personal comment made by a name changer last night who called a member - by name - a 'twat' and a 'dick', something which gravely upset her, and those posts are still there last I checked.

HunKeRMunKeR · 07/05/2006 23:34

So if Aloha wants to come back (as Aloha), there's nothing stopping her, Justine?

[fingers crossed she does one day]

Heathcliffscathy · 07/05/2006 23:27

so aloha, you have to come back to give your take...surely...please (that emoticon on msn with the wibbly mouth)

MrsSpoon · 07/05/2006 23:26

I miss Aloha too, although missed the whole thread where things kicked off. Have read a couple of her articles in mags recently and they made me smile. Hope she comes back some day. I don't think she is here under a different name as her style is pretty destinctive.

JustineMumsnet · 07/05/2006 23:17

Evening all,
We're a bit gutted by some of the posts on this thread, so think perhaps we should do some explaining. The last thing we want to do is rake over the mud but since certain things have been raised and some of you have expressed disappointment in the way we've acted, we thought we should explain ourselves - plus we would hate some of the misconceptions appearing here to pass into folklore.

With regard to Aloha, we are like many of you really sad she chose to leave Mumsnet and we do hope she'll be back one day. On a particularly contentious thread, we deleted two of her posts which broke our rules on abuse. We drew a distinction between clear personal attacks eg "Piss off you twat" and the more discursive "some of Aloha's posts in my opinion are racist". You may disagree with that distinction but it's probably one we'd draw again.

It hadn't crossed our minds that later readers might (wrongly) interpret that the posts we deleted were in fact, racist. This undoubtedly was an oversight and we apologise for that. It was actually entirely my fault as I was the one on duty at the time (if I said I'd just gone into labour would it count in my defence? Grin). But when this was later brought to our attention we did everything we could to dispell that misconception and deleted the thread immediately - am a bit bemused that it can still be accessed, we'll look into that asap.

Re the Pie thing, for those of you who are interested and weren't around at the time, this was a tricky one for us but we don't believe we acted unfairly. Pie was again a much-valued mumsnetter who was in charge of swaps on Mumsnet. A while after we found out Pie had set up her own site for mums, we (very politely as it happens - wrote it meself) asked Pie to stop running the swaps in which she had access to Mumsnetters addresses on Mumsnet. To be honest we had assumed she would stop herself once she started a website along the same lines as Mumsnet, as she could obviously run them on her own site - which indeed she does.

There was no question of banning her and all our correspondence was extremely civil - we copied most of our mails (save the last one which went along the lines of "sorry it got so heated, no hard feelings") into the threads regarding this by way of explanation to Mumsnetters at the time - do look them up if you're interested.

Having said all that we certainly do not claim to be infallible and we certainly make our share of mistakes. We are trying to be as fair as we can and in general we think the fairest thing we can do is have a few rules (as few as possible to keep Mumsnet going and civil) and adhere to them as closely as we can, so everyone knows where they are.

We do try our best to listen to you and to admit our mistakes and learn from them - \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1374&threadid=101762&stamp=050827154935\Milupagate} we hope, was a decent example of that.

Peace and love,
MNHQ

pupuce · 07/05/2006 09:17

That's correct. She did not steal any contact as everyone who did go on her website can confirm and did so at the time!
MN's e-mails to her were NOT friendly - I saw them as at the time I was her doula and was in regular contact with her.
Anyway it is water under the bridge but it left a bitter taste in several people's mouth Sad

OP posts:
SenoraPostrophe · 06/05/2006 16:02

she did have another website twig, but didn't use the list of names she had. mn asked her to leave pre-emptively.

Twiglett · 06/05/2006 16:01

hang on a second pupuce .. didn't pie go off to start another website and try to use contact details of mumsnetters to promote it? or was that someone else?

JanH · 06/05/2006 15:59

Is the [smirk] for seeing Aloha or having a RL, MI? Wink

motherinferior · 06/05/2006 15:21

I've seen her in RL (smirk) and she's very well and lovely.

pupuce · 06/05/2006 15:19

Well I had missed all that thread debacle... badly handled by MNHQ but sadly I will say it isn't the 1st time they have not handled things well... I suppose it isn't easy for them either (give benefit of doubt here)...
When Pie (a much loved poster) went it was the same and then there was Milupa, etc....

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 06/05/2006 14:34

busybusybee, she's freelance.

busybusybee · 06/05/2006 14:32

Lizs - I am intrigued! Which newspaper does she write for?

I disagreed with Aloha but I think differences of opinion are good as they make MN a more colourful place :)

Pruni · 06/05/2006 14:06

ditto.
Being accused of being a racist is the pits if you're not; if that had been me I'd have happily said goodbye.

LittleSarah · 06/05/2006 13:20

Just read the thread and thought it was terribly handled... was shocked by mumsnet HQ.

I liked Aloha too.

LIZS · 06/05/2006 12:16

saw an article by her in one of the weekend supplements a few weeks back.

edam · 06/05/2006 12:12

I agree it's a crying shame that Aloha went. Think it was very badly handled by MN.

expatinscotland · 06/05/2006 12:07

Aloha is missed. Sad

I did not like how MN handled the thread as well. Whilst I often disagreed w/Aloha, she added much to MN w/her perspective, talent and intelligence.

AussieSim · 06/05/2006 11:59

That is such a pity that Aloha is not posting anymore. I really liked her posts and used to do a search to see where she was thereby saving me the trouble of trawling through all the current stuff to find something interesting.

Thomcat · 06/05/2006 11:51

I'm really sad to read the aloha has left and to read why Sad
I have a lot of respect for aloha, I really valued her posts.

anorak · 06/05/2006 11:35

I miss her too.

I hope she reads this - at least then she will know we haven't forgotten her.

WWWontSlagOffAnyone · 06/05/2006 11:11

She couldn't be here with another name, she'd be spotted in a minute plus I don't think she'll come back as it was about principles. I miss her too.

handlemecarefully · 05/05/2006 21:55

I'm quite sure she is not on here under a different guise; we would be able to smoke her out in an instant.

Shame though...

winnie · 05/05/2006 21:45

I miss Aloha too :(
