Am I the only one to be a bit sad that Mumsnet have caved in?

Don't know, just feel a bit that some people felt it necessary to report mumsnet to a baby milk board or whatever it is for a so called breach of advertising. If you use and love a website why on earth would you want to get them into trouble?

Hmmmmm. I bet they feel like they have been beaten up this week. Storm in a teacup.

V weird.

No you're not, oliveoil but as anyone who dares say so will be insulted you can't expect many people to actually post here. However a few people may use the contactus facility to say that direct to the mumsnet team.

Do you think this would work for certain subjects that I don't think should be discussed on MN? If I shout loud enough will we be banned from talking about them.... for threat of appearance to advertise, condone and damn bear encourage them? I have a couple of subjects that I rrrrrrrreally don't think should be allowed to talk about.

I'm off work out my campaign strategy.

I don't see why people say the arguments were loud. They were quite repetitive, but that's because the pros were quite repetitive. (Endless I don't understand the fuss comments.) I think a lot of comment was quite interesting and once again I learnt more stuff about breastmilk that I didn't know before.

I don't think Mumsnet would change a policy just because of a few loud unrepresentative bores who weren't actually presenting any convincing arguments. Give them a bit more credit.

I am off to complain about the Boden ad with FF now REALLY REALLY LOUDLY and I may report them to somebody as well about something or other.

I did think talking about 'shareholder profits' was laughable. But I still don't think there is anything to feel 'sad' about, really.

4 people hated it, 3 liked it and 2 couldn't give a damn. The rest were the same people posting under different names. There are, after all, only 10 actual posters on MN, the rest are alter egos.

I agree kind of OO. But I do think they compromised more than caved in.

Where will it all end though..... what happend the next time everyone gets a bee in their bonnet? I don't think the majority of Mumsnetters complained about this.... just a few, but VERY LOUDLY.

I don't know, I just thought this site was a nice friendly place (IMO!) and it has been like being surrounded by yapping dogs all week. Not good.

Pruni, it started with people posting "these are the reasons we don't want the ad on the site" and other people post "how dare you make ffeeding women feel guilty, you smug witch" (I'm paraphrasing).

I agree there ended up with nastiness on both sides, and that's very regrettable, but much of it stemmed from spectacular misunderstandings by those on the side of "keep the ad, it's not doing any harm".

They went into detail about their accounts because certain posters had also done so, believing that the MN team are raking in money hand over fist and talking about "shareholder profits".

Don't think they've caved. A review was promised and has happened a bit earlier than planned - the ad is still there after all .

I'm surprised you think this.
The people who run MN are intelligent and reasoned.
Many people objected to the advert. They complained vociferously, citing their reasons. MN listened,conceded and therefore changed their policy.

I think this is what generally happens in civilised societies.
