Tik Tok is leaving MN as a result of the Milupa advertisement on the home page.

i meant that tiktok will not upset Milupa!!
Can she not see that her stand is not affecting the people she wants it to but the people she supports?

I understand her standing up to what she believes in..but...to what cost?

Ks - Got to disagree..... when I was pregnant ALL I heard about was breastfeeding!!!!

Formula is an essential part of parenting..... I think some people perhaps just need to get used to that idea!

I disagree about the baby choosing. I think a baby would choose a happy mum every time. My mum bottlefed and I would have hate her to breastfed me if she didnt want to.
That said she wasnt allowed to anyway by the hospital as formula was seen to be best.

I think it is unfair of you to ask so many members of this board to reiterate their reasons to you when they have spelt them out in about 3 threads so far. It may make you seem pompous to others to hear you ask 'why?'etc. repeatedly when by taking the time to read some of the pertinent posts on the topic you will get a picture without asking others to spell it out to you.

Actually, I dont think formula is a close thing thing to breastmilk. There are hundreds of ingredients in breastmilk that havent even been discovered as to what they are and formula cannot recreate a lot of what we know about breastmilk already. The formula companies want you to think is very close but it's not.

i would like to point out that althopugh i b/f my children, i had to stop b/f dd at 9 weeks as i had a blood clot and had to be put on warfarin, i had no choice but to bottle feed, i would hate to have been made to feel bad about it, of course breast is best, but sometimes not possible.

Harpsichordcarrier, your post is harsh. You make it sound like women who feed their children formula are giving their children arsenic!!!!!! Sometimes, bottlefeeding is the best for a woman and her baby, for whatever reason. I am an avid bfer, but I am also pro choice. What about woman with HIV? Do you suggest they bf, just because it's "best" for the baby?

I am sorry if I have offended anyone but I repeat I am not making any judgments about anyone's choices. I am just asking - who speaks for the baby? It's a valid question I think. What generalisation am I making?

I/ totally with Toothache on this. Can not understand for the life of me why anyone would get worked up over this.

I totally understand that breast is best, but formula is a damn close second. Lets stop vilifying Mums who use formula and MN for taking money from an advertiser who sells a product most of us would probaly use.

Much more important issues to deabte IMO

Harpischordcarrier, your comments, whilst obviously heartfelt are really not very helpful...in the past 17mths I have never felt such guilt or panic over every single choice I made for my DS (I breastfed btw), thats the nature of motherhood. There are plenty of new mothers who can't/won't breastfeed and your comments only serve to make them feel like crap. My friend is 6 months pregnant and has been told there is very little chance that she will ever be able to breastfeed due to her milk ducts being too short, she is going to try but chances are it won't happen.

mts what is your question? When you say who is TT targeting, to what are you referring? Her last post, or her leaving?

MTS, Tik Tok posted at 11.50 last night on this thread so you can read her post and get her views. She is clearly a very principled person and explains herself very articulately there.

I don't think - the way I've read it, anyway - that she is targetting anyone.

as i said earlier, formula is always going to exist and there will always be women who are unable to breastfeed who would like to make an informed choice about the formula the buy..however having also foundthis (scroll down to 5th heading), you certainly have to question the way all formula companies advertise, it could appear, that they are targeting women who could be struggling with b/f, so called helplines according to the article just put women in touch with company members.i dont have a problem with formula advertising as i said, but they shouldnt be directed, i guess at b/f women, i still feel though that MN, are unfairly copping the flack for this.
