Oh! Oh! My firstborn starts secondary school in September. Surely that warrants a support thread?

Am I a bit too early for this?

I mean it's months away yet, isn't it?

The pencil case turned up and she had no homework to do tonight Smile
She was able to have a long soak in the bath, watch eastenders and have her hair straightened (its a bit wild at the moment!)

Two pieces of HW to be completed tomorrow, both involve printing out a picture off the internet. God job I collected my ink for the printer today. I got 12 cartridges just to keep us going!

kid · 04/10/2010 22:23

DD didn't have to pay for the planner, her tutor gave her a replacement for free. It was meant to be £5.
She is going to look for the pencil case again tomorrow, it might be in her tutor room. She couldn't check today as they had assembly.

I do like the idea of making her contribute to lost items. I am certain it would train her to take better care of things.

DS is 8 and he managed to lose a whole school uniform plus new trainers in June (he had football after school). I wasn't happy as the trainers were new. I refused to buy him new uniform so he just had to make do with what he had. I was quite surprised that they actually turned up again last week. Even more surprised that the trainers and trousers still fit him!

roisin · 04/10/2010 22:15

Can she take it into school on a pendrive and print it there kid?

With my boys we have a deal: I pay for the replacement of the first lost item, 50% for the second, and none for any subsequent items.

This policy worked wonders in this house Grin

kid · 04/10/2010 21:59

We found the old planner!
It was under the car seat, even though DD did have a look in the car on the day she lost it. Today was the first time I have used that car (we have 2Grin), and I spotted it straight away. I have put it somewhere safe (cereal cupboard incase I forget, I can come back and check here lol) If she loses her new one, we can go back to the old one.

She also managed to lose her pencil case on Friday. I'm not pleased as it had all of her equipment in it. She doesn't seem to think it matters as she has another pencil case. That may well be the case, but she has no pens, pencils, rubber or sharpener to put in it!

DD is still coping okay with the H/W. It is getting on my nerves that they keep wanting her to print things out. Usually it wouldn't be a problem, but it is at the moment as I have no ink so can't print anything out.
I have ordered some ink but its at the sorting office and its tricky for me to get there as you can't park.

Hi Nappydays,

I've usually just sponge cleaned children's ties but on one or two occasions have washed them by hand - just make sure you iron it while still damp to make sure it keeps it's shape

nappydays · 01/10/2010 21:20

This may seem a daft question, but my son's school tie needs washing and it says 'Dry clean only'. Does anyone actually send their childrens' tie to the dry cleaners to be cleaned? It has todays lunch on it...shall I put it on the hand wash cycle?

kid · 01/10/2010 17:04

The planner didn't turn up so her tutor gave her a new one Smile
if she loses this one, it's £5 to replace it.
She didn't get in trouble for not doing the homework, she now knows what she has to do though.

I'm happy it's the weekend, I'm not enjoying work and am desperate to get out of there!

No sign of her planner Sad
she has to go to her tutor tomorrow if she doesn't find it and they will let her know about getting a replacement.

But, we have a problem. History homework due in tomorrow. Something about a tapestry but she doesn't know any more details!

Luckily I had typed up a copy of her timetable otherwise she wouldn't have known which lessons she had!

Dd has lost her planner. I thought she guarded it with her life!
Let's hope it turns up tomorrow and that she hasn't forgotten to complete any hw

kid · 28/09/2010 00:05

DD phoned me up today and put on an ill, croaky voice. She said 'Mum, I need you to come and get me, I'm not feeling well'
I sent her a text back saying tell the teacher and try to stay till hometime.
When I picked her up, there was nothing wrong with her! Cheeky little monkey lol

Thanks dinosaur. The older girls have warned the bullies to back off and it appears to have worked. I do hope that's the end of it.

Glad the planner turned up and hope your ds enjoyed pe. I haven't picked up dd's socks yet! Might try and pop in there tomorrow.

Dd has completed her maths hw tonight even though it's not due in till Friday. At last she is on top of the hw!

Good news that the geography planner turned up, bad news that the planner is missing. Hope that turns up soon.

I am not happy that the school can't deal with the bullying, but if dd won't tell them, how are they meant to know? Dd won't even tell me Sad
I only found out because the older girls witnessed it and told my nephew who then told me. We will get to the bottom of it, I just hope it's resolved sooner rather than later and that it doesn't get too serious.

I don't know about dd or the rest of you, but I am so glad it's the weekend!

I am exhausted, would happily give up work for a little while at the moment!

I found out that there are still some issues with some older girls in DDs school. They clearly can't deal with it so its being dealt with in another way. Nothing nasty, the girls are just going to find out that DD has friends even higher up the school than they are. I am so angry at them for starting on DD, she is tiny and they are such bullies. I would quite like to meet them myself. But, I am a grown up and not silly enough to do anything like that. Neither would I want an adult doing that to my kids. I wonder if their parents know they are bullies?

Glad to hear the PE bag has returned home FrogPrincess As if our kids haven't got enough on their plates at teh moment without boyfriends/girlfriends being thrown on to the scene.

FrogPrincess · 23/09/2010 21:49

PE bag has returned home safely, her friends found it and left it in the music room where she was doing girls' choir! And she found out about orchestra practice tomorrow, and has now got a total of 6 credits Smile.
She has noticed a boy in her form who spends a lot of time staring at her and giving her the odd smile, but she is creeped out by it, and anyway she has a huge crush on another boy in her drama group, so no one at school is of any interest at the moment (thank goodness). So much going on!
She has organised a shopping afternoon on saturday with about 6 friends from her junior school (she's the only one who moved to her current school), so that should be lively and will give her a chance to catch up and compare experiences of year 7.
I, however, am exhausted and could not face an afternoon of shopping Confused.
I bet most of us are pretty tired by now?

kid · 23/09/2010 21:00

Dinosaur I saw 2 people in purple tops, one was wearing a skirt and the other was sitting right at the front near Deputy Head, I wonder if that was you?

I didn't really see the point of the even to be honest. I saw tutor and she just asked what I Was doing there as she has no problems at all with DD.
I spoke to the teacher that gave the 1 hour detention and found out that the culprit has been found so the detention has now been cancelled.

I just phoned the sch, kids should come in uniform but won't be sent home if not in uniform tonight.

kid · 23/09/2010 16:06

Dd has a detention on Monday for 1 hour! Someone phone went off during geography and no-one would own up so teacher gave the whole class a detention.

Dd got in trouble for a technology h/w. Apparently they wanted a poster or PowerPoint. She did a PowerPoint and I bought a memory stick for her take it in on. Well the wanted it printed out. They should have made that clear then!

No homework set today, just have the mountain from previous days to complete. We are going parents eve, I assume dd doesn't wear uniform. My nephews have to wear uniform to parents evening!
