Groovy and popular RE teacher here.

I have a very funny class of year 7s, last year I had the grammar stream so it was all quite serious. This year have a middle class who keep beckoning me over to their lockers to look at their homework. I had to tell one boy off last week for being silly in our relaxation session, he went and told his form tutor I told him off for nothing as my brain was addled by incense I asked him about this and he said his form tutor must be wrong and maybe she finds early mornings difficult.

TheFallenMadonna · 23/09/2009 22:00

I don't teach any year 7s this year, which is really . God I love them. You only have to say the words "bunsen burner" for them to practically weep with excitement

stressheaderic · 23/09/2009 21:58

I teach Languages and this is my favourite time of the year with Year 7s, as they are usually brimming with enthusiasm! It's a fairly new subject for most (primary languages still fairly ad-hoc except in a few cases) so they are curious about it and can't wait to tell me to tell me that they said 'gracias' in Benidorm this summer, or they saw Dora the Explorer saying 'excelente' and secretly know what it means!
I try to savout these months, come Christmas many of them lose the enthusiasm as puberty hits and self-consciousness takes over, so that singing a daft song about the days of the week becomes a mortal shame....

Mais bien sur, mollyrrrrrrogerrrrr!

mollyroger · 18/09/2009 10:38

Oui! Elle est une vache!

Pyrocanthus · 18/09/2009 10:36

mollyroger - demerit for the teacher.

mollyroger · 18/09/2009 08:55

my poor lad now hates french as he got a de-merit. Teacher asked him to spell house using french alphabet. He is very dyslexic and cannot actually spell house in english...
She yelled at him for not paying attention...

The school knows he has problems but obviously it has not filtered through to all staff yet.

Pyrocanthus · 17/09/2009 21:57

And she keeps dropping 'comme ci, comme ca' and 'merci beaucoup' into the conversation, which I think roughly translates as, 'I think I quite like French'.

Pyrocanthus · 17/09/2009 21:48

She's right to be proud of her 5A. I think my DD will also be pleased to be assessed in Art.

YouLukaStunning · 17/09/2009 14:47

Dd is loving that they get graded in Art

Very proud of her level 5 A - whatever that means

Mumwhensdinneready · 17/09/2009 14:45

The new school is a major culture shock to my DS as he went to a tiny village primary. There were 8 in year six and now 140 in year 7. So as well as all the usual worries about big school he has to get used to the sheer numbers of other children.
We live in the sticks so DS2 going to school on the school bus. This is not new to him as he went on the bus to primary. He's been telling me about bad behaviour on the school bus last night (older kids being rowdy). Thinking about whether to ring school. I think I'll wait and see if there's a repeat performance.

Mollyroger ...I also have DS1 in year 9 and they have just split the sciences. In years 7 and 8 they seemed to do half a term each on chem/physics/biology but it was just called "science".

Pyrocanthus · 16/09/2009 21:17

DD got a nice lilac exercise book for geography today.

singersgirl · 16/09/2009 20:32

DS1 says English is really fun at his new school, and at last he's allowed to call it English, not Literacy! He also says (implausibly) that he wants to be really good at Latin. He doesn't like DT (genetically, sadly, he's unlikely to be good at it) and doesn't like French.

NoahDear · 16/09/2009 19:23

RE is very groovy and popular these days

stil chemistry here

Mumwhensdinneready · 16/09/2009 19:21

RE, and us a family of heathens

cutekids · 15/09/2009 16:41

Can't get over the fact that this is her third week and she's had pizza and chips or burger and chips alternately....so much for healthy school meals

cutekids · 15/09/2009 16:39

None of them...."all boring" apparently lol!!

NoahAmin · 12/09/2009 12:23

they wanted £30 a MONTH at ours

mollyroger · 12/09/2009 12:19

Bit bewildered that ds is doing 'science' as opposed to Physics, chem, biology...
Assume they will specialise at a later date?
He loves his science teacher (again, he promised to blow things up for them )

Pyrocanthus · 11/09/2009 20:22

Maths!

Pielight · 10/09/2009 20:08

He likes Chemistry too - think teacher did blowing up things to get them on side. Also History and . . . Latin.

Pyrocanthus · 10/09/2009 20:02

PE was great, apparently.

Dazmum · 10/09/2009 18:50

£6.50 for DT materials!

DS was cross because he wanted to do cooking and he has to do print making until Christmas instead. Muttered something about making a cushion, which is not good, because he really suffered at having to sew a design in wool on one he made at primary school!

He really likes art, and says the maths teacher is mad. Had to draw a picture of Spongebob Squarepants in English!

Pyrocanthus · 10/09/2009 17:07

£20 school fund. Annual.

Fimbo · 10/09/2009 16:07

So, week 1, how much have you been stung for so far?

My tally for the week is £18 for art materials and tec materials but this covers the whole of KS3 so we will not be asked for them again.
