Glenthorne sutton school admission

Dear Moms, I live in SW19 3HH and am considering Glenthorne High School in Sutton. If my child scores decently on the banding test, do we have a realistic chance of getting a place from a distance of around 3.7 km (without qualifying under any higher priority categories)?
Also, does anyone have children who travel to Glenthorne from Wimbledon, Wimbledon Chase, or New Malden? Since schools are currently closed to check furthest offer distances, any insights or real experiences would be greatly appreciated!

@gompimum We live at SW19 3Hx and we were in the same boat last year. Passed both stages of Sutton but the girls school have catchments and we didn’t get in. At Glenthorne DD got band 7 and there was zero chance of getting in. We were too high on the WL. If your DC gets band 9 they might have a good chance and at band 8 it’s possible. Past year cut offs will give you some insight.

Unless you are avoiding single-sex schools, Rutlish is a no brainer.
Wimbledon College is also a great option and you will get in even if non-catholic (from your postcode)

Glenthorne High School uses fair banding. In theory, whether your child gets a place has nothing to do with which band they end up in. However, in practice, despite the number of places for each band being broadly proportional to the number of applicants, the last distance offered tends to be higher for the higher bands. Last year your child would only have been admitted if they were in band 8 or 9.

You can ask Glenthorne to share the furthest distance per band for the past few years, that will give you a better idea of possibility. I suspect your child would need to be band 9 or maybe 8. I’d encourage you to have a banker school eg Rutlish/Ricards which they will secure a place however. Good luck!

If he can get a grammar level score on the Glenthorne test he will very likely get a place because those dc tend to end up in the grammars or private with scholarships etc.

Thank you

You don’t have to be in catchment for Sutton grammars?

It’s a great school, is your dc grammar level because i think you would get in if you scored in band 9 or maybe 8

Yeah he has cleared all sutton schools but we are not in catchment. Hence checking glenthorne probability.
