Hi everyone,
My son is transitioning from primary to secondary school, and we live in Wimbledon (SW19 3). Could you please recommend some good state secondary schools in and around Wimbledon, Tooting, Colliers Wood, New Malden, and Kingston? Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!

I would suggest you search on this site - there are many threads discussing Wandsworth schools.

I have never used them personally but hear good things.

given your postcode, you will get Rutlish easily and it’s a great school. WC is a second excellent option.

Not sure there is much gain in travelling further out unless it’s a grammar.

Wimbledon College is Catholic. In recent years they have taken in a number of non catholics.

Rutlish is the other obvious local
choice.

You also have Harris Wimbledon, all the Wandsworth s schools - Graveney, Chestnut, Ashcroft etc.

Or the Sutton ones if you are close enough - Glenthorne is closest

Could you please suggest which one is good among graveney, chestnut, ashcroft?

Do We need to be in catchment ? Which one is really good in this list?

Usually yes, for most of these. The Catholic schools will have their own criteria above distance eg. Catholics, then other Christians, then other faiths, then no faiths etc.

You should check their admissions policy on their individual school websites to be sure.

Wimbledon College (Jesuit so better to be Christian).

Rutlish

Ernest Bevin

Coombe Boys

Richard Challoner

The Kingston Academy

(Not as good reputations in the past: Raynes Park High, St. Mark's C of E).

I am assuming your DS is not currently in Y6, as you only have about a fortnight left to apply for 2027 entry?

The best place to start is the websites of the relevant councils, so Merton, Wandsworth, Sutton and Kingston. They list all the schools in their borough. Look at the furthest distance people got in from last year to see if you stand a chance. Go to open days for possible candidates.

If you're applying for grammars, that would be Tiffin, Wilson's, Sutton High and Wallington.

But living where you do, you have in Rutlish a boys school that's outstanding in all areas of Ofsted on your doorstep. I don't know what you would be getting by looking further afield, unless you want co-ed.

Some children go to St Cecilia’s CoE in Southfields too
