AQA all three subjects.

When have you applied? We applied on AQA Eng Lit remarking on the result day and heard nothing so far.

Walkingbkwrm · 01/09/2026 18:06

Great news about the good start @Littletreefrog . Hopefully it will go as well tomorrow for DS1 and anyone else starting back 🤞

NotDarkGothicMama · 01/09/2026 17:41

That's brilliant @makemineadecaf, well done your DD! DS missed out on a 9 by 1 mark. I have to wait until school reopens on Thursday to sort out a re-mark - fingers crossed for a similar result.

Littletreefrog · 01/09/2026 17:39

Thank you for the well wishes for DS.

He is back and absolutely shattered. He is the only boy on his course and given his autism, the awkwardness that comes with that and his unfashionable dress sense I am hoping they don't eat him alive! He says it was ok and he will go back tomorrow so that's a start.

Walkingbkwrm · 01/09/2026 17:30

That’s a very late start date @Monr0e !

No PE lessons here (DS is thankful) but there is a school gym (as in with exercise machines etc) that I think is open to sixth formers when not in use so he may well use that sometimes if his timetable lines up with when it’s available. Much more his style than enforced football :).

Monr0e · 01/09/2026 14:15

DD doesn't even have enrollment till Thursday and has been told actual start date will probably be the end if next week! Not that she's complaining.

She doesn't have any PE but they have to do an hours RE (catholic 6th form college) and an extra curriculum activity. Luckily there are a few she would be happy to do but she won't finalise that till she does her enrolment on Thursday.

Which exam board?

Also, can I ask a general marking question to those in the know on this thread?

How do they set the grade boundaries? Is it a case of say the top 2% get a 9, then the next top 5% get an 8 and so on?

AQA all three subjects.

Franpie · 01/09/2026 13:01

makemineadecaf · 01/09/2026 12:08

Good luck to those starting.

all three of DD’s reviews have gone up and were so thrilled - English literature up by 13 marks!! So only two marks off 100% and a top grade 9. Madness.

I hope his first day goes well @Littletreefrog! DS has decided to take an early bus for his first day tomorrow for similar reasons. He's refused to do a practice run just to suss out the route so fingers crossed he manages it right first time.

I've left him at home with half his bridging work still to do - hoping he doesn't decide just to skip it! I decontaminated his room at the weekend and took a whole load of clothes to the charity shop. He now doesn't have to do a death-defying leap over his floordrobe to get to his desk, so no excuses for not getting the bridging work done.

Drivingselfmad · 01/09/2026 11:49

Sorry yes, AQA

Stowickthevast · 01/09/2026 09:42

@Drivingselfmad interesting. I remember them talking about how good all the topics were after the lit. Did Lan change much? That's the one DD was very surprised by. She got nearly 100% in Lit and History so her 6 in Lan was very much an outlier.

@Walkingbkwrm I know Edexcel Maths was 12 marks lower than a 9 last year so the papers must have been quite a bit harder.

Walkingbkwrm · 01/09/2026 09:02

Good luck to all those starting today, especially at new places! We are tomorrow here (DS1, DS2 gets another day off). Got the kids up today to attempt to readjust body clocks slightly - they were not impressed at all this morning, house full of zombies!

Interesting about the English, maybe it was something about the questions in the paper? That does seem a big uplift in the boundary- anyone know how much they normally shift by? Not AQA here so just nosy but it is interesting.

waitingquietly · 01/09/2026 08:59

Good luck @Littletreefrog to your DS . Sounds like a thoroughly sensible approach to the travel .

Fingers crossed that all goes well

Bit of English intel now I am back at work and looking at data etc. For Lit, all grade boundaries shifted upwards from last year. For Grade 9 it was +6, for Grades 8, 7 and 6 it was +5. So it makes sense that a large number of students at the top end were disappointed.

Is that AQA

Good luck @Littletreefrog

DD starts on Thursday, and has chosen to go to a new school for sixth form, and is now in a mad panic to do all the transition work before then. Off to the British Library this morning to "lock in".

So here it is first day of college! He has decided on a ridiculously early time to get the train on the basis he can gradually move to a later train when he is comfortable that it will get him there on time.

It all feels very grown up but as a reminder that he isn't a grown up DS bought his laptop down at 11pm last night along with a list of software he needs to download and instructions how to access his college email (not as easy as it should be). So we had to sort that out. Baring in mind he received this list on results day and has done the sum total of bog all about it between then and last night!

I'm nervous for him given his mental health issues earlier this year. He seems to have turned a corner over summer and I really hope this new environment doesn't send him backwards.

Wishing him all the best for college and well done you for the last min IT support! Hope college has a positive effect on his mental health. Keep talking, I find dog walks are useful or mundane driving for them opening up. Sometimes I think everything is ok and it’s not. Other times that I think will flaw them and they handle it. xx

I remember games avoidance in sixth form . DS1 follows in my footsteps - he goes to his gym if he can get out

Curlyfrizzball · 30/08/2026 23:19

My DD will be super glad she’s at a college not a school and doesn’t have PE timetabled! She hated it. I do agree that it’s good to encourage exercise, but unfortunately PE lessons often do the opposite for non-sporty kids!

Franpie · 30/08/2026 22:27

Littletreefrog · 30/08/2026 19:24

Oh I definitely don't think all they should do is work and of course exercise is something everyone should be doing it just seems to me a bit infantilizing to be putting it in the timetable. But if the young people like the idea then that's great.

Maybe I just don't really get school 6th form though because I also think it's odd when some schools make them wear uniform.

Edited

DD loves that she still has games at 6th form. But she’s sporty and so chose a sporty school so knew this was the deal. I think most if not all independent schools are the same? Games on a Wednesday afternoon? When I went to uni it was the same, games on a Wednesday afternoon.

XelaM · 30/08/2026 22:08

@Littletreefrog I'm totally with you. My daughter loves sports and is taking PE as one of her A-levels, but it would have been my worst nightmare as a 16-year-old to still be forced to do school PE. I couldn't get rid of it fast enough and I'm sure many teens feel like that.

Tebheag · 30/08/2026 21:46

DD is happy to do PE as enjoys it.
I also think its good for DD she is doing Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Psychology so good to have a break.

Littletreefrog · 30/08/2026 19:24

Stowickthevast · 30/08/2026 19:12

Actually I think it's good that they put PE or games in but I don't think they do at Dd's school. Young women particularly stop doing exercise at this age so I'd like them to have a bit of an incentive to keep going.Dd has said she'll miss core PE so is looking to take up something else. It's important to have a break from work.
