Hi all

Am I going mad? I'm sure we had a thread to discuss those current Y5 who will be taking the exam in September. Has it disappeared, or am I having a moment?

We got the result we needed/wanted - now just waiting to hear back from all the friends….
Good luck to everyone still waiting/checking and feeling for everyone who doesn’t get the results they hoped for….

Groove599 · 20/10/2026 13:35

DS got good scores for Trafford but we are out of catchment for all schools, so will be biting our nails again until March!

Scout2016 · 20/10/2026 13:24

No joy here with Trafford. Hope daughter isn't too disappointed because she gave it a good shot.
Best of luck everyone!

SorrengailFables · 20/10/2026 12:40

nothing showing on mine yet but the website is super slow…

Groove599 · 20/10/2026 11:36

Apparently Trafford results out after 12.30pm today per message on the portal.

SorrengailFables · 20/10/2026 09:33

Trying not to obsessively check the portal…..

Still waiting for Trafford - does anyone know if Loreto and St Ambrose have come out yet? We didn’t go for those but can’t remember if they came out first in previous years…? Time seems to be moving slower the closer we get! Any chance it’s today??

I know exactly how you feel, have gone through this last year. Trafford result will be out today based on previous years. Loreto and Ambrose published theirs yesterday.

I am wondering, do they give out the scores so you can sort of plan it? All of my DS tests email are just outcome without scores (unless you fail to meet their criteria), and even then there are still hundreds of children more than available seats that has passed so you don't really know until 1 March. It sounded like its not the standard practice in other areas which gives out the scores directly.

In Trafford I understand they give out scores (this is our first time). Those scores can and probably will be different for each school that you have applied for even though you only sat one test, because they are all standardised against different cohorts of children.

But in Trafford the score can make a difference to your ranking in the oversubscription criteria because some schools use scores to rank out-of-catchment applicants.

I suppose in your area it depends whether the score actually makes a difference to your ranking or not? If it doesn’t, and it’s simply pass/fail to qualify and then all based on distance, the score isn’t a useful piece of information to you anyway.

If the score does make a difference then I’m surprised they don’t give it to you.

Hey, Within Trafford! They said on the 21st or before so I guess it’s a waiting game!

My hunch is that they won’t arrive for Trafford before Tuesday at the earliest, and probably Wednesday.

Interesting that you’ve heard 21st as well. Can you remember where that comes from?

Are you waiting for the Catholic schools or for Trafford Consortium?

Waiting is basically the worst part. My eldest's results came out at 3.30 p.m. 3 years ago... and my youngest's didn't come out until 3.50 p.m. - those 20 minutes I reckon I refreshed my email about 100 times! Good luck to you!

Which county are you in? Some counties have been out for a week or more - others aren't expected until next week.

Results out today and we made it!! We are so relieved. Went straight to dd school to let her know and she burst into tears of joy and relief! An emotional day for us and feeling so blessed. Anyone else get their results today?

Hello,
My ds is only year 3, just wondering for those that did pay for tutors, what year you started this? Thanks

Depends. If they have gaps in curriculum learning, then some tutoring in year 4 can be helpful, so they start year 5 ready to go. Whether they go for 11+ or not, it's still helpful to make sure really secure in curriculum topics.

Also depends very much on your child. At start of year 5 it seemed so far away that DD wasn't very focused, but others are different.

In year 3, you really won't have an idea whether your child is '11+ material' and they aren't old enough to know if they want to aim at grammar or not. Our youngest is year 3, and there is no way we could make the decision yet on whether to go for 11+ or not. Give it a year, see where school test results are mid year 4, and then you will have a greater sense.

That's interesting, Stretford is one we didn't view as we thought it would be too hard to get too. Basically tram into town and back out - seemed too much and too long a day. Then we wondered if we had been too harsh as a neighbour's kid went there and it was managable, so we rang to ask if we can just go and visit and they said no. Fair enough.

I just asked for results for all except the boys' one because I thought I might as well. But Urmston is too far away in reality and we didn't visit it either.
Altrincham girls open evening was rammed and we didn't make the best of it, the head's talk was full. I was getting strong desperation vibes from the other parents. It's a bit of a trek too.

If I'm coming across as a bit clueless it's because I am. We are also torn on single sex and on how far to expect her to travel.

I’m still not sure how realistic an impression you can get from any school at an open evening to be honest. They all have some Grade 8 piano player playing a lovely tune while you settle down for the head’s speech, and they all have all the good science experiment stuff out on the benches (AGSB had some fire-making experiment going on). I really don’t know how much correlation there is between a quality open evening and a quality school.

I’d grill your neighbour a bit to see what they think of Stretford.

PiesAreSquared · 14/10/2026 13:13

Got results unexpectedly early this morning (two days early, Warwickshire). She smashed it and will be off to SGGS I think. Good luck to all of you and even if you don't get exactly what you wanted, the process will have been invaluable for them.

LinearTransformations · 14/10/2026 09:28

We’re still waiting- i think we should receive results Monday 19th.
I don’t have high hopes and just want to know to ‘move on’ so to speak.

well done to all those who have been successful!

Still driving myself crazy counting down the days!

@Scout2016 which schools are you getting results for? We’ve asked for AGSB, Sale and Urmston, with that being our likely preference order. Stretford seem to have changed their oversubscription criteria this year such that a high score from a distance is not helpful, so we’ve left Stretford out as we wouldn’t get in.

@Groove599 thanks. We are on the border of 2 LAs - if we walk less than 10 minutes down the road we are in Trafford but that counts for nothing really.

We were thinking that if DC passes for a school we haven't visited we could contact them and ask to look round...but if they leave it that late the schools will be shut for half term so that screws that vague plan!
