I feel sick…! We’re not in the country at the moment (poor holiday planning!) but we can log on at 9am to get his results. He refused to consider a Plan B, so he is screwed if he hasn’t got the grades.

Gazelda · 21/08/2024 14:16

Today is dragging so slowly. I just want it to be lunchtime tomorrow so the drama is mostly over.

DD is pretty chilled.

We haven't got a plan for tomorrow. I'll drive her to school. Parents not allowed inside, but I don't know if I'll park and wait or go find a wine bar cafe and wait for her to call me and let me know what's what.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 21/08/2024 13:56

Ahh thank you. As I say it's a massive if but it would be good to have that breathing space to make the choice.

I wasn't sure if their exam/candidate number somehow meant that once one offer was accepted you couldn't do another.

Doe anyone know ... if a student has x 2 conditional offers as follows -

  1. With current school for 6th form, high grade requirements and must be accepted by time lunchtime, and
  1. With college and lower grade requirements and must be accepted by lunchtime Friday,

If - and it's a bloody big IF - all goes well and she gets the higher marks is it possible to accept the first one for where she is and then sleep on it and decide which one is her best fit before possibly cancel that and accepting the second the next day?

Hope that makes sense

Absolutely yes. She can even accept both, then cancel after the weekend.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 21/08/2024 13:45

Time lunchtime = tomorrow lunchtime Grin

DD is at a gig tonight. Won’t be back till gone 1. I’ll be having a glass of wine and a pizza at home with the dog (well not the wine for him!) as I’m not on driving duty for this one. Tomorrow dd already has plans with 2 friends for early pm so won’t have time to dwell at least initially (I hope)

Waspie · 21/08/2024 13:28

I will keep everything crossed for all of our DC tomorrow. I hope they all achieve the grades they need for their next steps. All the best x

gingercat02 · 21/08/2024 13:18

Yes looks like tomorrow for AQA www.aqa.org.uk/exams-administration/results-days/grade-boundaries#boundaries

Paperclipp · 21/08/2024 13:14

Does anyone know when the exam boards publish their grade boundaries...will it be tomorrow morning too?

Schools certainly have them tomorrow

Well dd has just got up , told me the bus for college is at 7 am every day if she wants to arrive for the free breakfast, said at least if she fails she won’t have to get up early and went back to her room 😳😳😳

am going to have to find someone to start praying to

BlackBean2023 · 21/08/2024 12:19

DD has training between 7 and 9 so she'll sleep well. We're having a normal dinner at home tonight - curry - but have booked a restaurant for dinner tomorrow to celebrate (I hope!)

gingercat02 · 21/08/2024 11:54

I'm off tomorrow (and have no need to drive), so wine here and lots of it (perhaps tomorrow, too)
DS is still asleep, so I have no idea of his plans for this evening. If he's in, we will have a nice tea and maybe a film, but in all likelihood, he will be out

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 21/08/2024 11:20

Good luck to everyone's DCs tomorrow, may they all get the grades they are hoping for. 🙏

Wehaditsogood · 21/08/2024 10:19

DS has preseason rugby training this week, so that keeps him busy. He is so stressed. I wish I could help...
We are at rugby training in the evening as well.

Thank you for all the insights from schools. It is all very interesting!

I’ll be drinking Prosecco to aid sleep, same as last week before the A level results came out!

😂😂good idea! I have a bottle of Malbec on standby...

Waspie · 21/08/2024 10:13

BlackBean2023 · 21/08/2024 08:26

I'm working from home today as I'm banned from the building Grin I'm not actually banned it would just be awkward if I were there - I would wonder if colleagues smiling at me was a good sign or pity LOL.

Results are in though. So they know... only 23.5 hours until DD knows too!

Definitely better to be at home Grin

My sister works in a high school and part of her job is sorting all the results and data. It's the same school my nephew attends. He is getting his results tomorrow. My sister is staying in a hotel tonight to avoid giving anything away inadvertently at home this evening!

Yes I believe so. DS' friend who took his GCSE's last summer sent him a photo of his results paper and it has scores for each paper as well as the grade. @MrsHamlet's comments about English language are interesting, I didn't notice this on DS' friend's results.

Grade boundaries will be on the exam boards' websites.

I didn't sleep well last night. I was having a nightmare about not getting to school. I have broken a metatarsal, my foot is in a boot and I can't drive. DP is away with work. A friend is going to pick us up and take us down to the school tomorrow (her daughter is also collecting results) but in my nightmare she forget us and for some reason taxis and Ubers don't exist. Obviously back in the real world DS would just cycle down to school, get the results, and cycle home again but dreams are all panic and no logic!

I am hoping today goes quickly. I'm working from home, DS is volunteering. We're going to have take away pizza and a movie night this evening. He's having a film noir phase so we're going to watch Chinatown.

What are you all doing with your DC this evening?

How are the results presented? Do they get a score that they can then compare to the grade boundaries (and where do we find these?).
Again thinking of her history exam …!!

BlackBean2023 · 21/08/2024 09:55

DD will get results on one piece of paper and hopefully an acceptance letter sixth form. She's not bothered about the grades- just the acceptance letter!

MrsHamlet · 21/08/2024 09:54

In my school, the results slips show the overall mark and grade.
As a teacher, I can see marks by paper and by question - but that's deep in the secure site. I have to click 36763 times to find it every year!

Techno56 · 21/08/2024 09:53

MrsHamlet · 21/08/2024 09:44

Advanced warning, because this comes up every year:

For English Language, you probably won't get the marks, just the grades. That's not down to the exam boards or the schools. It's because of the systems schools use to generate the results sheets: they only allow a certain number of fields. English Language has 2 papers and the spoken language "grade". So you'll probably get a grade for the exam and P, M or D.

It's not because the exam board messed up. Or that the school did. It's just because SIMS is a dick.

School will have the marks; we just can't easily get them on that sheet.

Thanks for this. Do we get marks for a subject overall or for each paper sat?
