End of Y10 exams: how good a predictor of GCSE results?

My DD is in Y10 and just got her end of Y10 exam results. They were graded 1-9 as her GCSEs will be. They have really shocked me (they are better than I expected) and I wondered how likely it is she would secure the same grades at GCSE itself. She says the exams were taken from old GCSE papers. Does anyone know whether end of Y10 exams can be taken as an idea of likely GCSE grades?

Two grades each way is quite a range!

i won’t get excited then. She just did so much better than I expected and I would love that to mean her Year 11 won’t be like her older sister’s experience - her sister didn’t do exams at the end of Y10 due to a Covid so we never had that as a clue to how she would do.

Too many variables, but results will probably be within 2 grades each way, ime.

They are usually a fairly good indicator. In general we would expect results to be slightly higher rather than lower in the real exams next year. Some go up quite a bit.

It depends on how they were marked, how they were graded, what they covered...
