DS isn't long home. They have had an epic evening/night on the beach with all the local Y11s
Full on chill weekend

JaninaDuszejko · 14/06/2024 23:14

Dd very happy with AQA single physics but since this is the first time she's actually properly revised for it I thought that might happen. Last exam here but a few of her friends have exams next week. She and her friend who are doing triple science and have no more exams came out of their exam and all their friends who did combined had already gone home to revise for next week so she said it felt a bit flat. Party next week though. Not all her friends drink but some do including DD. From how they all are when we give lifts home they aren't drinking much even though they think they are. So I don't mind, it just happens at parties at people's houses.

We live in a leafy market town in the north (so very very white) and DD has been to most of her friend's houses for multiple parties. DD2 not so much but I know in one case that's because her friend is embarassed by her parent's half finished DIY (they are friends of ours so we've been to their house). DD2 is one of a couple who are 'the hosts' which suits us.

well it is over, but not quite how I was expecting.

Dd suddenly got really emotional over leaving. She has had a shit time at this school due to ongoing bullying and because she is so bad at friendship issues (autism). I thought she was glad to leave but this evening she was really upset and said she didn't want to leave. Blames everything on bully, even the fact that she is not going to get good GCSEs. This is a very skewed picture, but I get why she thinks it.

But the thing that has thrown me is that she completely flunked her physics because she was crying through the paper because it was their leavers' party afterwards. She literally left loads of questions blank. She was hoping for lots of questions about stars, she got load sof questions about stars, and barely answered any of them. Then found the leavers' party horrendous, and came home in pieces.

But it is over.

See you all here on August 22nd!
Good luck to those who are still going next week. xx

Oh no your poor DD. How did she do on the other science papers? It may balance out.

Well I had a massive row with DS because he adked me to collect him and didn't follow my directions so I ended up driving round with nowhere to park trying to find him! I think it's just emotionally draining all round. I'm exhausted and DS went to bed at 9, which he hasn't done for ages!

What a day! After “straightforward” Geog 3, Physics 2 (AQA Combined Higher) went “extremely well” and that was that. A group of the girls from school stopped off for an hour or so at the ice-cream parlour on the way home, which struck me as a sweetly old-fashioned way to celebrate their freedom.

After shedding her uniform for the last time I thought DD was going to collapse in an exhausted heap, but she has been fizzing with excitement this evening about her next steps. She’s taking up a new language next week, has booked her driving theory test (she’s one of the oldest in the year group and will be 17 before we know it) and has been on the UCAS website checking out when she can open her university application account (answer: next May). It’s as if the schoolgirl has vanished in the space of a couple of hours and been replaced by a swishy-haired student readying herself for whatever life’s got in store.

Meanwhile I am all TGIF and ready to flop.

Best of luck to all those still on the exams treadmill. Not long now.

Newlittlerescue · 14/06/2024 21:40

DS also said AQA physics was very-very maths based so that might be why the kids either found it great or a nightmare. A few sneaky unit conversions in there that DS only noticed when he went back to check his answers.

I'm super jealous of everyone who has finished. We've got music and further maths to go. For music, has anyone found any online resources to practice for the 'write in the missing bars' question?

My DD did biology a level two years ago and the same happened. As a result the boundaries are pretty low and I’m sure your DD will be ok. Biology is a hard A level to do really well in! Hang in there!

Thank you. I hope that's the case. She needs an A but they will accept a B if she gets AA in the other two which she's more then capable of. I just hate seeing her so down on herself. It's knocked her confidence and she has one more.biology exam to go.

Wehaditsogood · 14/06/2024 20:00

On the plus side, DS matured a lot in the past few weeks. He had to.

Swingingvvoter · 14/06/2024 19:52

@Techno56 wow that sounds tough!

Dd had been extremely worried about physics but said it had lots of maths which was good because they give you everything all you have to do is do the formula which apparently they also give you.

Geography also good.

Phew, what a slog, I can't believe it to be honest. It's brutal for them and doesn't make sense to me.

Wehaditsogood · 14/06/2024 19:48

I have no idea how the exams went. DS rushed home with a friend to change clothes and he is out celebrating. They allowed me to take a photo. 😄

@anoukis DS's NI number came out of the blue a couple of months before his birthday.

All of DS’s friends thought it was easy so that’s made him feel even worse. I’m away so I’ll let him process it and see how he feels tomorrow night when I get back… i think he ll bounce back pretty quickly. I got him an internship next week and that will be the next things he worries and moans about. 😝

Yeah same with DD’s main group. She was a bit shell shocked as she’s not used to that (lucky her ). I think she’s ok, I took her out for a treat and now she’s with her mates. And physics has absolutely no relevance to what she wants to do in the future, it won’t affect anything . I do remember that feeling though of thinking it’s a hard exam and then no-one else does! Horrible.

I have a house full of happy teens, daughter has had som friends over to celebrate. Physics was meh apparently but she doesn't care.

My eldest said she had a shocker of a biology a level today, it's so hard to see her feeling so down about it. There's so much pressure on them.

My dd is thesame. She felt better as she found a whole group of super clever people who also found it hard !

Bellini12 · 14/06/2024 19:16

So pleased it is al over for us - with mocks etc it feels like it has gone on forever.

DD has already cleared her room of all her papers etc. I don’t think my recycling bin will have enough space 😁

I don’t think she came out of any exam saying it was “easy” so I admire those students who are so confident!

I don’t think she wants to dissect any of today’s exams so will try and forget about it now until the day of reckoning in August.

I got a photo - thanks for the reminder! DD promptly burst into tears as she thought she looked awful (she didn’t!). She’s gone with her gang to one of their houses and then SLEEP!

Zubomama · 14/06/2024 16:42

DS very unhappy with Paper 2 Aqua Triple physics despite going in confident. So is very down. Not an A-level choice but he doesn’t get why he found so many questions so hard. Shame to end on a downer but he is done!

Techno56 · 14/06/2024 18:11

Our school had a power cut just as physics started and then had to wait 30 mins / move rooms to a building that had power (for his laptop) and those in the gym bad to do the exam under emergency lights.

But of a downer, threw him off and he said he doesn't know how it went but he did finish. He didn't spend long checking though or use any extra time as he knew they were doing the shirt signing and didn't want to miss it 😫 What's done is done I suppose. Still music on Monday so feeling very flat!

Ds came out reasonably happy with higher physics and Geography.
2 more to go still next week so another weekend of revision here.

LighthouseCat · 14/06/2024 17:43

Finished here! I don't think DD can quite believe it. Geography went well she thinks. Physics was hard but she's seems upbeat regardless and is getting ready for a party.

DD is v social. Always has been but my other DD is very much a homebody who does have some lovely friends but rarely hangs out with them outside of 6th form.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 14/06/2024 17:38

Ds still has 2 left next week but has hopped on the train to go and play badminton with a friend this afternoon. Think they’re getting fish and chips afterwards!

Wednesday still feels like a long way off! Well done to everyone who’s finished

AIstolemylunch · 14/06/2024 17:22

Finished here! so nice to be done. So glad it's over. Even got a photo as he arrived home - smiling which is nice to see. Hang in there for those still going into next week!

newmum1976 · 14/06/2024 16:15

My DD found it hard too. 😭

That will explain DS not wanting to talk about it even changed subject saying I could take a last photo of him in his uniform before rushing of to the Gym.

MiniMidiMaxi · 14/06/2024 17:00

Still got Further Maths to go here, but DS seems fairly demob happy anyway. Very happy with geography AQA, reasonably happy with physics triple AQA. Now completing Euro predictions ready for a get together with some friends tonight.
