We got DD's AQA PE paper 1 review back today (1 off a 9) and it went up by 2 marks so she now has the higher grade. Seems like her teachers were spot on when they said they thought that paper should have had a couple of extra marks.

WaitingforThursday · 25/09/2023 18:59

We got our first remark back today. The dreaded OCR computer science has gone from a 7 to an 8 (up 3 marks, needed 2).

HermanHermit · 23/09/2023 12:10

Hi - we also got our remarks back yesterday. The line 7 was upgraded to an 8 (& an 8 marked up by 3 marks but needed 4 to move to 9). The psychological impact of being able to say straight a* seems to be the thing here and she is properly thrilled. I’m still concerned at the reaction the line 7 sparked, and I realise it’s something I need to keep a close eye on. Thanks all for not laughing me out of your thread (we had an awful week when by any rational measure we should have been celebrating like mad)

HippyChickMama · 22/09/2023 14:04

Ds had a call from the school exam office today to say his RS paper has been re marked and upgraded from a 7 to an 8. He was one mark off an 8 and school requested the review, we weren't particularly bothered but ds had signed the permission paperwork on results day. He's happy about it, not sure how many additional marks they found though

MoFoFlo · 20/09/2023 14:54

Just had a letter from DD’s school for her re-marks.

Her PE paper 1 went up by 1 mark so she now had a 7.

Geography she was 1 mark of a 4 - one paper went up by a mark, but another went down by a mark. Frustrating!

She was 2 marks off a 4 for English Language, so school automatically submitted for remark. No change unfortunately, but I think having some extra support with English while she’s at college will actually be a positive thing, much as she’s not looking forward to re-sitting the exams.

Although her grades were lower than expected she’s still got into a her first choice sixth form college and is really happy doing a mix of Btecs and A-levels.

Piony · 19/09/2023 20:09

That's very frustrating!

7forwardorsplit · 19/09/2023 19:04

Thanks piony, yes think we might be too late, did make the original request prior to the deadline but was fobbed off by school, even more annoying!

Piony · 19/09/2023 18:19

@7forwardorsplit I'm not an expert but my understanding from PPs is the window has now closed for Priority access to AQA scripts. Any requests made after 7th Sept can only go in as an Original Request, which are aimed at teachers using them in class rather than candidates, and they give themselves 6 weeks to fulfil those requests. Whether the scripts come back quicker in practice I don't know, but you've got less than 2 weeks now before the Review of Marking deadline (28th Sept), so even if they were willing to submit the request, it may well not come back in time.

Maybe someone more knowledgeable will be able to advise.

The paper we put in for review was actually DD's highest mark in the subject.

7forwardorsplit · 19/09/2023 17:38

No breakdown although I've emailed to ask if they have this as that would be a start at least

Posted in aqa thread but posting here too for traffic!

Can anyone advise what to do if school is refusing to request access to scripts to help decide whether or not to go for a review of marking?
They've said their policy is only to request scripts in advance if the mark is within one or two from the upper grade boundary, if not we just have to go in blind and pay for a review, very frustrating!
Dd got a lowish 5 in aqa eng lit (mark 76) - predicted a 7 and from what she said no obvious screw up, I did lots of revision with her and she knew her stuff I think but feels high risk to request a review without checking she hadn't fluffed a question or two....
Can I insist if they're refusing and on what grounds? Any advice welcome....

Not sure I can give any advice (our school have been very helpful) but do you have a breakdown of how she did on each paper? Is one clearly lower than the other?

@Sadtimes1 it was Maths. Not much help to you I imagine.

Sadtimes1 · 18/09/2023 22:57

@Piony great news, we’ll done to your DD! Hope that you don’t mind me asking which subject that was?

Piony · 18/09/2023 18:10

So grateful for this thread and @NCTDN and @MrsHamlet in particular. My daughter's now got an 8 she didn't have before. Without this thread we've have missed the main deadline for requesting scripts - which wasn't advertised anywhere. I'm still a bit confused why it was so constrained, especially as it wasn't an AQA exam. Anyway, it's done and she is thrilled so thank you.

Plus we get to spend our returned £44 on pizza!

@bendmeoverbackwards I hope your daughter is managing ok.

Fantastic!

MrsHamlet · 18/09/2023 21:07

SheilaFentiman · 18/09/2023 19:39

We have had two reviews back already, it does vary a bit by board

It also depends on the volume of requests.

Neversaygoodbye · 18/09/2023 19:33

We paid for submission of an AQA geography paper for review on 4th September and haven't heard anything yet. Not sure how long these things tend to take.

School have paid for my ds Geography paper to be remaked, 2 points away from a 6. I was surprised they offered to be honest. He was fine with the 5 however much lower than expected.

@WaitingforThursday thank you. No, it was computer science. We haven’t put in for English Lit as we are asking the school first.

WaitingforThursday · 18/09/2023 17:39

Great news Sadtimes1! Was that for English?

Sadtimes1 · 18/09/2023 17:21

Good news, we have had one paper back and it has gone up by 3 marks so DS is extremely happy to now have an 8. It came back in less than a week!! Still waiting for the other subject.

Sadtimes1 · 15/09/2023 23:32

@Hersetta427 Hope that you don’t mind me asking but was that AQA English Lit? Interesting that no reviews have changed marks in English at your school as there are a few people reporting changes on Mumsnet. In general, it seems the vast majority don’t change.
Good luck with the review of PE, hope that your DD gets a 9 🤞.

Yes it was AQA for both actually.

We heard back from DD’s school today after her teachers had reviewed the papers we were considering paying for a full review. She was 2 marks off a 7 in English and the teacher said she was fairly marked but Pe )1 mark off a 9, one paper was fine and paper one they said they thought she should have had 3/4 more marks so just paid for a review of that paper.

we shall see. Her exams officer said no one’s grades had gone up so far in English.
