How will you be celebrating the end of GCSEs?

A bit early I know but was just wondering how to celebrate the end of GCSEs with DD when they’re over. Lots of sleep I’m sure but looking for ideas of something special to do with her. Going on holiday but not until August.

Took mine out for mocktails, then cocktails for a levels

@giotto agree! But for some ANY conversation will involve a mention of GCSE grades. Oh look at that beautiful kitten! Ah, yes my daughter, who got all 9's in her GCSE's, once had a kitten.

😂😂😂
I work with someone just like this!

NellyNutmeg · 16/06/2023 13:20

We're going paintballing with my son's friends. Wish me luck!!

DownTheRabbitHoIe · 15/06/2023 18:32

@AgathaSpencerGregson I think the Nando's thing is for results day. They've done it previously and students need to show theirs results slip to qualify.

DS will be going out for pizza next week with some friends and then we have booked a meal out at the weekend with his big sisters.

AgathaSpencerGregson · 15/06/2023 17:58

HappiDaze · 22/05/2023 18:26

Apparently Nando's is giving away free meals to all students on the last day of their GCSEs with ID so mine is planning on doing that and hanging out with friends after

Wish I’d known this. Took DS shopping today to celebrate end of his and made him make do with Pret!
Alton Towers on Saturday though so I think I can stay in the good mum camp

LighthouseCat · 15/06/2023 17:53

I've drawn a bit of a blank on it. I will definitely pay for her celebration lunch out with friends this weekend, and maybe a 6th form clothes shopping trip (seeing as wearing your own clothes is the part of 6th form she's most looking forward to 😂)

I will take her to get her nose pierced so it can heal up over the summer to the extent that she won't need to wear the stud all day (which she can't do in sixth form, assuming she gets in). She has wanted it for years and I've always said no so it will be a nice surprise for her.

She will want to go to a party tomorrow night. There will be an argument as we have had some bother with her MH and drinking to dangerous extents, and it will inevitably put a downer on her exams being over.

My daughter is also getting her nose pierced. She has had a septum piercing she has managed to keep hidden for whole of y11 but in sixth form they are allowed piercings so she can get a normal nose one as well. And a helix too.

Supporting you kids through exams doesn’t correlate with smugly referencing what you hope will be their results on an unrelated thread.

Reference is in regards to how we celebrate and how hard he worked. And yes the ones who are predicted 8,9s have literally not even seen friends and daylight and played on Ps as much as they would have liked so yes, celebration might be just for life to go back to normal. And that’s enough.

Ah ha ha !!! I literally forgot mumsnet was like this with so much smugness as hasn’t been on for ages. Need a drink myself to recoil

I've bought my lad the biggest box of his favourite cereal, he will love it, he's worked so hard and overcome a lot of challenges. I'm so very proud of him for making it through. Just like the previous 4 he will get to choose tea on results day!

Love this! Choose what’s for tea and a massive box of cereal- perfect.

TeenDivided · 15/06/2023 07:22

We had a chinese takeaway last night to celebrate DD completing her maths resit.
She has 1 more assignment left for her college course which may get completed today. Then 2 more weeks of college (she thinks its most unfair as 'everyone else' finishes this week (ie friends from school who are doing A levels)).

What she really wants is a snake. I'm holding out until October half term.

Cornflakesaredabomb · 15/06/2023 07:22

No wonder these kids feel so much pressure if we make such a fuss about everything.
‘Cash incentives for 8s and 9s’ I think is one of the worst comments I’ve read.

@giotto keep your kids home from exams and tell them grades don’t matter lol

your kids results are unrelated to the topic in this thread. Not sure why you needed to reference them

giotto · 15/06/2023 07:13

DontForgetToBreathe · 15/06/2023 07:07

lol because some of us live in the real world. And if the kids don’t get the grades they want to get into the college course they want it will feel a bit crazy to be swinging from the chandeliers and having a jolly good time while dc feel gutted and are planning to resit, mooch around need a different kind of lift.

none of us love our children any less or more than anyone else so pipe down

your sanctimonious bs doesnt wash

why sit exams at all? It’s awful experience, so why not let your kids miss their school and GCSEs altogether?

Honestly - came on here wondering how to celebrate the end of GCSEs with my son and forgotten how many smug-ees perpetuate mumsnet - gross. No wonder I haven't been on here for ages. Should be banned.

Ihatethenewlook · 21/05/2023 23:09

I’ll be going all out with my dd, whatever I can think of. She’s a high achiever and has been predicted all 8 and 9’s. She studies for 2-3 hours a night, all self motivated, she know she needs good grades for what she wants to achieve. There’ll be lots of pamper nights and activities that she likes on the weekends during the exams. She’s got a cash incentive for every 8 and 9 she gets. And there will definitely be a short break or something when she’s done them. Perhaps I’d have done better with mine if my parents acted like they gave a shite rather than thinking ‘I dunno, might give them a pat on the back if I’m in a good mood’ 🙄

So if she didn't get high grades you wouldn't be proud of her - why do you feel the need to post the grades your daughter may get on a post about celebrating hard work

giotto · 14/06/2023 22:03

piedbeauty · 22/05/2023 22:51

Money for a thing he really wants. We are not rewarding for grades. I think that's really shit. We're rewarding him for effort made.

Totally agree - those posting their kids grades on here are the worst

AmazingBouncingFerret · 24/05/2023 09:19

Miller and Carter steakhouse.

My son will also celebrate getting his hard earned 5/6/7’s (hopefully!) by going to the same college as the students that got 8’s and 9’s Grin

Totally irrelevant in this context what grades they get

giotto · 14/06/2023 21:59

DontForgetToBreathe · 22/05/2023 05:24

Sleep 😴 Ds predicted a lot of 8 and 9s and has worked so hard for every single one. Barely seen his friends out or watched any movies. If he can just keep it together it should be good.

But some days out sort of planned after the prom. London mostly for food and chilling out and let him make his own plans with his friends, and go to the cinema. Do normal things again. We had a big holiday last year and not going away this year due to renovating a house. Wouldn’t mind a mini break in England somewhere. Norfolk maybe.

Gross - smug

giotto · 14/06/2023 21:57

Exactly - congrats to him -
